The idea of post credits scenes has been quite common when a short clip plays out after the closing credits. The tradition started back in 1903 and has evolved ever since. For quite a while now, this has been a tradition for games as well. With new branches of stories and different new arcs that these games hold, post credits were an obvious turn for these companies. Recently though, Shadow of the Tomb Raider came out and as the game it was, without its patch update, it includes a post credits scene that was not meant to be seen by people and added accidentally by the developer.
The patch for this title came out the day this was released. Given that people who played it had an internet connection but for those who didn’t, clearly didn’t get the patch update. Coming out of the Forums, some players discovered the scene which leaves the trilogy at a cliff hanger rather than an ending that is depicted in the scene which is put in after the patch update. The Alternate ending can be seen down below
It shows a letter to Lara Croft, leaving space for something more that follows the trilogy. As for the original, meant to be ending sequence, it can be viewed here
In this, an older Lara is shown as she recaps her life, in a feeling of contentment, being done with her mission of life. This scene is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, showing an end to the long running series, marking the end to an era of Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider. According to the Studio, the patched out scene wasn’t meant to be shown to the players as it did not belong.
