The Unboxing and Stuff
An imported review unit, comes in a box packaging. It’s a black box with matte black finishing having yellow borders on both sides, that deliberately matching the corsair’s website theme. Corsair logo at the top left and features spotted at lower portion of the box. The product name at lower right portion. Interested to see that designers have advertised everything they could related to product on front. And, keyboard picture in the middle added a great touch in fancy outlook.
The back side is being populated with features in yellow being English while the white consist of foreign language. The keyboard picture is placed right in the middle, while surrounded with pin point features this mechanical keyboard has got. The lower portion contains the switches speed and Guarantee Sticker and the safety certification for this product (region dependent). However, we don’t see anything new/different on sides. Just the icons of Multi-color, CUE and MX Cherry Switches lined up in sequence. Let’s move on to the content inside.
We open the first layer of box and got an actual cardboard box which obviously has the keyboard and stuff. We bring out the second layer of packaging, which is the typical, light brown cardboard box contains everything inside it. Once we go inside the second layer, we see keyboard placed horizontally and is being packed in polyester film packaging. The packaging seems sturdy and uninterruptible, to say the least.
The accessories and the stuff can be found under the keyboard. Some replaceable keys along with dual manuals for keyboard. Down the deck, the wrist rest is packed in a polyester sheet. The accessories and stuff are as follows:
- A Wrist Rest for Keyboard
- A Manual
- Metal Textured key Caps
- A Key Puller
Design and Responsiveness
The Corsair is being popular in designing highly innovative products, and so have they done with K70 RGB Rapid-fire Mechanical keyboard. It has a matrix of 104 keys across the keyboard. The top frame is black, Aluminum made with brush finishing on it having top quality. The corsair logo is designed right above the function keys, that in no doubt, looks great.
Having mechanical nature of keys, you will find it most comfortable to fingers, especially when you are typing. The alphabets are designed in silver, that lights up when it they receive command. The space key is rather soft with metal texture on it, differentiating it completely from the keys above. The numpad, on the other hand, is typical and possess similar look as the alphabets.
Up at the corner, it has multimedia keys includes, stop, Backward, forward keys, a sound rollover and a mute button with icon it. The light indicator of Capslock, Numlock and update function is being fit next to them. Not to mention the LED/RGB brightness button is an add-on, in case if you wish to reduce the color brightness of lighting effects, just press this button, it will either stop the lighting or reduce the brightness. Undoubtedly, a very useful feature because not every time you wish to go into the software and do the customization, so it’s a highly profitable tiny button.
There are optional features like USB port and a Switch. All this time, we have been taking it as RGB profile changer without reaching the software, until we learned from an official statement from Corsair that it does not here for aforementioned scenario. The switch has 1,2,4,8 numbers, which apparently, there to change the response time in gaming, for example 1 is 1ms or 1000Hz and so on. Flipping the switch to BIOS will let you utilize the keyboard in BIOS by removing any incompatibility. In some cases, motherboard do not recognize the gaming keyboards, so just in case if you experience anything like that, flip the switch to BIOS to make it 100% compatible in BIOS.
Next to it, is the wire connectivity. The K70 comes with a dedicated wired connectivity unlike the wireless keyboards, which can easily reach to the long distance to connect with PC’s USB port. There are two USB connectors; USB Pass-through and Wired connectivity, both sit at USB 2.0 Type A.
The backside of keyboard has a matte-black finishing, having lifters on each side. The top lifters are being plastic, allows users to adjust the height of keyboard for more comfortability, while the bottom ones are made to accommodate wrist rest. the middle area has the huge sticker contains Corsair logo, P/N – S/N codes and many certifications. Alongside, there is a warning printed in orange color and says use of some gaming keyboards may cause injuries and vice versa, well, its rather strange.
The wrist rest, as corsair says, very comfortable for long gaming sessions. The plastic has the dotted/dimple textured on it, is kind of bit soft, offers comfort and extremely purposeful, especially in long sessions of typing and gaming. Too bad, it attracts/collects dust and With that, users have now a little more side work, i.e. the cleanliness, from time to time you will see the dust particulars landing on it, which required cleansing. Therefore, we suggest buy yourself a piece of toothbrush (or maybe paint brush) to keep the wrist rest clean from getting dusty.
The Cherry MX Red Switches coupled with RGB feature have been marketed and was first brought by Corsair. While there are other switches used in mechanical keyboards, like Blue and Brown, the Red one is considered as highly durable and preferred by most gamers. The actuation point of 1.2mm is fantastic because it is ultra-fast for any gaming, unlike the standard Cherry MX switches which are closer to 2mm on actuation. It might not take attention of some gamers, but it could be very effective where need to react even faster than your opponent, mainly in FPS and MOBA titles.
The responsiveness of all the mechanical keyboard is more or less same, but Corsair K70 feels is one perfect choice for gamers, especially when have more FPS gaming sessions, particularly Multiplayer. Of course, the only reason anyone would be dishing out $90 for just a keyboard. The K70 has a full Key NKRO with 100% Anti-ghosting technology allows to register infinite combination of keys no matter how fast you are. You can consider any other mechanical keyboard, but feature wise, Corsair K70 RGB Rapid-fire is absolutely amazing.
Despite the high competition in the market, Corsair K70 with Red Cherry MX and RGB have been discerned as world’s leading product to offer performance and features in one bag, without compromising the build quality.
It’d be clueless to play with multi-color, RGB effects, until you will realize software support from Corsair, an Intuitive Corsair Utility Engine (iCUE), offers simple (one-click) and highly advanced customization for best user’s experience. We, of course, wanted to try out the customization to actually experience what it has to offer.
After installing the utility, we go to main screen and created our own profile for personalized effects. iCUE is a simple yet detailed software. if you don’t want to go into highly advance settings, a simple One-Click RGB effect can be done via main screen. Even on default profile you can just select the desire lighting option. We have played through the lighting effects under our own profile and the effects as under.
It takes us a few minutes to comprehend and tweak the RGB effects. Every lighting Effect has different outcome, like rainbow has a completely different RGB look, we can say the actual RGB. In addition to this, we like the “Type lighting” effect because it has a unique effect. By triggered this option on, the light effect turns on single key and then spread around nearby keys, which looks seriously amazing.
Then there is another function in the CUE software that offers one-key action, called Macros. In order to set macros for keyboard, we went to enabled Action menu from Side bar and select the recording key to initiate the Macros button(s), a very useful for gamers. For a membrane user, this is entirely a new experience. As for the usefulness of this function, the popular FPS game like Call of duty, Battlefield and other popular, macros offer multiple actions via single keystroke; that indeed worth to try.
We found the CUE customization is pretty much simple, except few complications as entered the menu you see no tips whatsoever combined with too many diversions. People who already have dealt with the CUE program, tweaking/configuration would be no issue, but for novice, it would be a complicated box on a first impression.
We believe that is. We readied up some of the FPS titles, mainly the Call of duty, battlefield 1 and Doom 2016. We checked the jumping, cross moments, double switching and strafing. After being played two maps, the feel was absolutely great. Call of duty, in particular, where one uses player movement and double-switch weapon to improve gaming, K70 has showed highly responsive, unlike the membrane we had. In addition, we able to improvised a much better precision with consistent flow of moments. For both technicalities, a faster keyboard plays vital role because it works alongside with the mouse. If you have a better mouse but a cheap membrane keyboard (lacked good response rate), you might end up failed in achieving the target and/or goal designed. No doubt, weapon aiming is mouse dependent, but mouse always work in collaboration with keyboard; unskillful movement in the game will ruin the precision plus, you have to work too hard on non-mechanical keyboard.
We utilized the keyboard for a week, to actually ascertain the final opinion on it’s performance. Besides noticeably faster response time, the actuation point being the key factor to control the keystrokes force. The macros feature beside, is quite useful for multi-action events like grenade throw followed by quick prone mode or maybe weapon switch, whatever your possible actions. In addition to this, some of the fighting games, like Street fighter 4, Mortal Kombat X have highly extensive fighting moves and combos, that takes storm of keys to complete them. With macros you might have an edge that will indeed ease things up for you.
The K70 Rapidfire is aimed at silence and of course, the speed. The chery MX siwtches are faster with response time and better actuation (1.2mm) reduce the amount of force you pay to press a key. However, do not expect to be a King of the Ring as it won’t make you a better gamer but only indulged in improving it by offering much better response time and smoother actuation.
Not to mention the typing experience has been excellent, too. This article is being typing on same keyboard and the feels is extremely refreshing. Guys with the good typing speed i.e. 40 Keystroke per minute or above would definitely enjoy the smoother and uninterrupted key response. The improvement in the typing area is mostly the accuracy, that has been the major concern for a typist. With better actuation level, it gives smoother flow of typing, and less chances to miss the keystroke and most importantly, it offers highest level of consistency without being getting tired.
I would simply give full marks for optimally being great in the typing. Not to mention every keystroke produce a nice metal sound which added for best user experience. That being said, not everybody’s a fan of keystroke sound, given that, they should consider this point in mind before making purchase.

Many hardcore gamers love to spend 1000 of hours on multiplayer gaming, and being faster to opponent is usually, mostly depending on the equipment they have got. if owned a better mechanical keyboard alongside Mouse/headset, that definitely gives a slight edge in the game, however, better responsive rate and actuation (to some extend) plays significant part in achieving the possible targets. Over membrane, this mechanical keyboard is entirely a great upgrade.
Once you pitch in the software, you will find default profile with simple lighting effects to choose, however with the complicated, in-explicitly detailed options that appears all over the menus and subs. Though spending more time digging the software would help you comprehend the essentials sooner.
Spending over a Hundred USD on a mechanical keyboard raise some questions in mind. Since there are number of keyboards in the market that offers competitive response time and precision, too. However, not all are equipped with so many great yet stand out features. We have tried the Steel series keyboard a long back, it was good but it didn’t have Cherry MX Red switches; has a typical dark look but definitely no RGB. The Cherry MX Red switches are long lasting, especially designed for longer durability. Then there are simple LED keyboards in the market, yes, they work fine and looks good, but they don’t bear such level of build quality and of course, no multi-level RGB.
We believe, Corsair K70 is a one best deal that has offerings no less than a premium keyboard, in fact, I consider it as a premium keyboard. Packed with fabulous look and performance at the same time. With low actuation and high response time, it lets you improve your multiplayer gaming, and with Cherry MX Red having perfectly looking Illuminati, this keyboard definitely deserves to be part of your gaming gear.
