Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 allows you to equip some of the best weapons ranging from different weapon categories. These are designed for players who like to use weapons with a huge magazine size, as LMGs typically hold between 60 to 100 rounds.
- Author’s Note: With more than dozens of hours of experience in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I feel more than obliged to provide you with hands-on experience on the topic below.

RPK
Reload Time | ADS Time | Fire Rate | Time To Kill | Base Move Speed |
3.08s | 430ms | 600 RPM | 200ms | 4.33 m/s |
- Why I chose this: Impressive base stats that make it a versatile weapon.
The first LMG I would like to mention on the list is the RPK. This LMG is considered the big brother of the AK-47. Even if you look at it, you can tell that both look pretty similar.
Just like most of the other LMGs in the game, the RPK has a total of 75 rounds in this magazine and 75 rounds in the reserve. Thanks to this, you won’t have to worry about continuously reloading your weapon during a fight. But this is what LMGs are for, right?
Overall, the RPK is a decent LMG. This weapon is not unlocked by default and you need to complete a certain task before you can use it. This includes leveling up the Kastov 762 to level 16, after which the RPK LMG will become available for use.

The attachments I recommend for the RPK LMG are:

RAAL MG
Reload Time | ADS Time | Fire Rate | Time To Kill | Base Move Speed |
6.7s | 510ms | 556 RPM | 152ms | N/A |
- Why I chose this: It gives decent recoil control with impressive damage.
Next up, I have the RAAL MG. This is yet another LMG that holds 75 rounds in its magazine. However, its reserve ammo is higher than the one mentioned above, 150.
RAAL MG happens to be one of the strongest LMGS in the entire game. In fact, it offers the second-highest base damage among them. Thanks to this, you can quickly take down your targets in only a few shots. Its accuracy is also somewhat decent, and the recoil control offered by this weapon makes it easier to control the shots.
Overall, the RAAL MG is a great LMG. However, it is not an early-game weapon as you will first need to reach level 25. Afterward, the LMG will automatically get added to your inventory. Furthermore, you will need to level up this weapon significantly before you can unlock some decent attachments for it.

As discussed above, LMGs are meant for situations where you need to defend something from the enemy team or push them into the corner by making bullets rain on them. For this purpose, you need a weapon with plenty of bullets in its magazine.
As for the Sakin MG38, it holds a total of 100 rounds in its clip. This makes it the best LMG when it comes to magazine size, as others are not even close to it. By using this weapon, you can defend an important point without worrying about reloading again and again.
Overall, the Sakin MG38 is a pretty amazing LMG that can help you take down your target in only 3-4 shots. When paired with the right attachments, you can transform it into one of the deadliest weapons in the entire game. However, keep in mind that the Sakin MG38 is not the best when it comes to mobility.

Finally, I have the 556 ICARUS. This one holds the top spot in our guide about the best LMGs in Modern Warfare 2. This isn’t a surprise considering it belongs to the same group as M4, and you already know how amazing that AR is.
To unlock the 556 ICARUS, you will need to take the M4 to level 18. Yes, the weapon won’t be available until you have made significant progress, but the wait will be worth it, considering how powerful the LMG is. It has an amazing damage output, and its mobility is also greater than all of the other LMGs on our list.
Another amazing thing about the 556 ICARUS is its range. The LMG can help you take down targets that are far away, and you don’t have to worry about losing control of it as its recoil pattern is pretty easy. You can also pair it up with different attachments to further enhance it.

My Take On Best LMGs
LMGs are lethal weapons in quick matches of MW2. However, this category requires a bit of training and game sense to master them. Personally, I love using heavy LMGs against enemies as it enables me to rush fearlessly on and do clean squad wipes. If want to try LMGs on the battlefield, you can test out the options from my picks and see which one works out the best for you.
This was everything you needed to know about the best LMGs in Modern Warfare 2. At the time of writing, there are only six of them available in the game. However, the developers can expect to add more of them through future updates.
In the meantime, if you want something that can help you excel in close-ranged situations, then you might want to check the Modern Warfare 2 best shotguns. Also, learning about how to level up weapons quickly will be a wise thing to do, as this will help you with unlocking attachments.
