best stealth games PS4
The Last of Us Part II
  • Release Date: June 19, 2020
  • Developers: Naughty Dog

The Last of Us Part 2 is the sequel to one of the most amazing PS4 exclusives out there. With so many improvements and a continuation from the events of the previous game, The Last of Us 2 might be one of the best stealth games on the PS4.

You get to play as a grown-up Ellie who has new friends and is on a vengeance mission in a zombie-infested world. The Fireflies from the previous game are back, and Ellie is going from one location to another, trying to hunt them down.

But besides just the story, the game has some of the most advanced stealth mechanics out of any other PS4 game. The NPCs in the game feel real with their unique dialogues and advanced awareness of their surroundings. When you take out one of their allies, they’ll notice their absence and even call out their names.

But besides just human enemies, there are a lot of creepy and straight-up scary infested that are trying to get you. There are new types of infested enemies since the first game, all equally challenging!

But what makes the stealth great in The Last of Us 2 is the fact that you can engage and disengage in any situation. Even if you get spotted, the levels have been designed in such a way that you can always find a way to sneak up on your enemies.

And let’s not forget all the weapon choices and the improved combat mechanics. Ellie’s swiftness makes it great to get some amazing stealth moments. From the use of the bow and arrow to great takedowns, you’ll have a great time.

  • In terms of graphics, The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most astounding games of all time.
  • The voice actors and cast of The Last of Us Part 2 are dazzling and keep you immersed throughout the game.
  • There are a lot of different places to explore and side content available in the world of The Last of Us Part 2.
  • The enemies are realistic and the combat system is fascinating in The Last of Us Part 2.
  • There’s a decent combination of new tools. The upgrade system is absorbing and well-balanced in The Last of Us Part 2.
  • You can craft unique materials and diverse collectibles are available throughout the game which makes The Last of Us Part 2 engaging.

  • The animations in The Last of Us Part 2 get redundant after some time which is disappointing.
  • The storyline pacing gets pulled down as you progress which is not acceptable.
  • The exploration element of The Last of Us part 2 is too expansive that it gets bland after a while.
  • There is not enough variety in enemies.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

metal gear solid 5
Promotional Art for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • Release Date: September 1, 2015
  • Developers: Kojima Productions

The Metal Gear franchise is well-known in the gaming industry as some of the best stealth games out there, especially on PS4. You get to play as tactical soldiers on espionage missions where stealth is your ultimate weapon.

Metal Gear Solid V is the series’ first attempt at creating an almost open-world-like game, and they nailed the experience. The lands of Afghanistan are your playground as you take down different enemies in unique ways.

The game follows Big Boss, who is now code-named “Venom Snake” after his 9-year coma. It is a direct sequel to the events of Ground Zeroes and the destruction of MSF. Venom Snake is on the hunt for the men who took down MSF while also rebuilding his own group.

With an entire mercenary group, Diamond Dogs, at your disposal, you’ll always have access to unique weapons to help you out in any situation. From tranquilizer guns to the Fulton Extraction, there are so many weapons for you to create chaos from within the shadows.

Besides stealth, the game also offers base-building elements that can help you in the field later. Additionally, you get to have allies, such as a sniper or a dog, with you in the field that you can give commands to get you out of hairy situations.

But overall, Metal Gear games have always pushed the stealth genre, and MGS: V is no different. With a powerful physics-based game engine, you’ll have plenty of memorable moments in the game.

  • Metal Gear Solid V represents an intricate, special story that grabs your interest from beginning to end.
  • In terms of visuals, Metal Gear Solid V is a decent-looking game.
  • Each character is unique in their own way in Metal Gear Solid V.
  • In Metal Gear Solid V, You’re typically kept regaled in a fun way by assigning soldiers, creating new tools and gadgets, and upgrading your Mother Base.
  • You have the freedom to complete your mission and objective in several uncommon methods in Metal Gear Solid V.
  • You can assemble your own weapon by gathering different weapon parts spread around the world in Metal Gear Solid V.

  • Sometimes the cover system is glitchy making it frustrating to play the game.
  • There is an insufficient amount of cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid V.
  • The side missions get duplicative in Metal Gear Solid V.
  • Metal Gear Solid V has no interesting boss battles.
  • As an open-world game, the fast travel system is dreadful in Metal Gear Solid V.

Hitman 3

The Hitman 3
Hitman 3 (2021)
  • Release Date: January 20, 2021
  • Developers: IO Interactive

Besides Metal Gear Solid, another franchise that comes to mind when you talk about stealth is Hitman. Agent 47 has a unique distinction from all of the other stealth protagonists, and that too for a great reason.

Agent 47 is a genetically engineered assassin with lots of tricks up his sleeve. We follow him in Hitman 3, which is the final installment of the World of Assassination trilogy. He is on a quest to take down the leaders of the secretive organization Providence.

And there are almost endless ways of taking down a single target. You can simply sneak in a pop a bullet in their head, disguise yourself as someone else, drown the target, poison their food, throw them off a roof, or even go guns-blazing; the choice is all yours.

What makes Hitman 3 better is the replayability factor. The progress you make on a level, such as opening secret paths, finding unique weapons, or unlocking a completely new strategy for an assassination, gets carried over to the next time you play the map.

So, as you play more and more of the same map, you’ll end up discovering newer, better, and a lot more fun methods of performing assassinations. That is why Hitman 3 is one of the greatest stealth games on PS4.

  • Scenery-wise, Hitman 3 is a decent-looking game.
  • There are diverse strategies to complete a mission which is intriguing in Hitman 3.
  • The stealth component of Hitman 3 is simply captivating.
  • The maps are well-designed and the locations are vibrant in Hitman 3.
  • Hitman 3 does a terrific job in terms of visuals on next-gen consoles.

  • The cutscenes are bland and do not look very promising in Hitman 3.
  • The missions get tedious and predictable after some time.
  • The story of Hitman 3 is not the best compared to other Triple-A titles.
  • Artificial intelligence in non-playable characters is a total mess in Hitman 3.

Dishonored 2

Best Stealth games for the ps4
Dishonored 2 Cover Art
  • Release Date: November 11, 2016
  • Developers: Arkane Studios

A Sequel of Dishonored, Dishonored 2 follows the tail of Emily or her father, Corvo Attano, as they attempt to reclaim the throne. You can choose to play as either one of them at the start of the game, and your choice can give you different supernatural abilities.

But even if you don’t make use of those abilities, there are many stealth elements in the game. Each level has a nonlinear approach, meaning you can approach it in a stealthy or aggressive manner. The game truly shines as you play it with stealth in mind, especially considering all the different assassination and non-lethal methods that you can unlock by completing side missions!

The enemy detection in Dishonored 2 works on-line-of-sight, allowing you to use cover, high areas, or even the shadows to remain undetected and sneak up on them. But sometimes, you want to attract enemies or lure them away from certain areas. For that, the game offers you many mechanics, such as creating noise using your sword or throwing a broken bottle.

There are so many different mechanics for you to explore, such as stun mines, sleep darts, and of course, the chaos system. You can dispose of the bodies, turn off alarms, and a whole lot more. That’s why Dishonored 2 truly makes you feel like an assassin.

  • The game mechanics are massively enhanced compared to the previous Dishonored game.
  • The stealth gameplay is still intriguing and top of the shelf in Dishonored 2.
  • Dishonored 2 offers a number of areas to explore.
  • The world details are incredibly designed in Dishonored 2.
  • The new abilities are a nice addition to Dishonored 2. They are deeply amusing to use throughout the game.

  • The main plot is not engaging in Dishonored 2.
  • Significant performance drop in busy plazas and outdoor areas is irritating in Dishonored 2.
  • Dishonored 2 is badly optimized on PC.

Batman Arkham Knight

arkham knight
Promotional Art for Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Release Date: June 23, 2015
  • Developers: Rocksteady Studios

Batman is literally known as the creature of the shadows, the one who hunts at night, and the dark knight. So, it’s no surprise that one of Batman’s games can be considered the best stealth and comic game on PS4!

The Arkham series is one of the best comic book game franchises, and they’ve created not just 1 but 4 different Batman games that are equally good. Batman Arkham Knight is the final installment in the Arkham series and has some amazing elements.

With your trusty grappling hook, you can climb to almost any height and come down at enemies with a sneak attack. Additionally, Batman is known to have useful gadgets, and that’s also the case in Batman Arkham Knight. From batarangs to smoke bombs, you’ll be prepared for almost any situation.

But Arkham Knight expanded on the stealth system by including the fear system. Almost any thug would be scared of a vigilante dressed as a bat going around giving people concussions. So, the game leverages that and lets you chain together stealth takedowns by taking advantage of their fear and taking out a whole group. If you truly want to feel like Batman, Arkham Knight is the game for you.

  • Despite how old this game is, Batman Arkham Knight looks absolutely stunning in terms of graphics.
  • The crime-solving missions are very distinctive and keep the player regaled throughout the game.
  • The maps, world design, and everything are positively detailed. Gotham City looks excellent in Batman Arkham Knight.
  • Batman Arkham Knight supplies a great assortment of gameplay.
  • There are myriad side missions and various things available to do in Batman Arkham Knight.
  • The main plot of Batman Arkham Knight is thrilling.

  • Too many batmobile battles eventually get monotonous and tedious in Batman Arkham Knight.
  • The PC port is awful in Batman Arkham Knight.
  • Sometimes the use of batmobile in Batman Arkham Knight becomes pushy which is really annoying.

Sniper Elite 4

Best Stealth Games PS4
Sniper Elite 4 Cover Art
  • Release Date: November 17, 2020
  • Developers: Rebellion Developments

The Sniper Elite franchise is known to have some of the best sniper games for PS4 that include a good amount of stealth. Sniper Elite 4 is a third-person tactical shooter stealth game and follows the immediate aftermath of the events in Sniper Elite III.

A freighter sent to the island of San Celini to explore rumors of a new Nazi weapon ends up sinking, and Tom Clarke-Hill is sent to investigate. His mission is to assassinate General Tobias Schmidt and others that aided in the attack.

There is a good narrative in the game but where it truly shines is in its gameplay. You’ll often find yourself perching from a long distance and taking out targets and activating the iconic X-Ray kill cam.

The AI of the enemies is also quite advanced in the game. The enemies look for their allies if they get taken out and become unresponsive. And they also feel fear, as when their officer-ranked allies get taken out, the army retreats.

But you’ll also have many other tools at your disposal too, such as binoculars that can even point out what weapons the enemies are carrying and tag them. You can set up booby traps using corpses and remove light sources to remain hidden. There are a great number of things to keep you busy in the game!

And if you’ve already tried Sniper Elite 4, you should definitely try out Sniper Elite 5 as it improves on much of the existing mechanics and adds new stuff.

  • The X-Ray kill system is one of the main features that feels enchanting in Sniper Elite 4.
  • The movement system is a step up in contrast to previous sniper elite games.
  • The level and objective format in Sniper Elite 4 seize the player’s undivided attention.
  • The AI is formidable and engrossing in Sniper Elite 4.

  • The gameplay gets duplicative after some time in Sniper Elite 4.
  • The combat always compels you to go into the cover which is really bothersome for most players.
  • The storyline is not gripping enough to keep the player enrolled throughout the game.
  • The multiplayer is not rewarding and really appalling in Sniper Elite 4.

Watch Dogs 2

best ps4 stealth games
Promotional Art for Watch Dogs 2
  • Release Date: December 9, 2020
  • Developers: Ubisoft

Ever wanted to be a hacker sneaking around and taking down big, evil corporations? Well, that’s exactly what Watch Dogs 2 is all about!

Set in the San Francisco Bay Area, you get to play as Marcus Holloway, a hacker who is working with the group known as DedSec. The group is trying to take down an advanced surveillance system known as ctOS. DedSec believes ctOS can harm innocent civilians and put their privacy at risk, so it’s up to them to take on its parent company, Blume, to bring ctOS down for good.

The game has some iconic characters like Wrench, Sitara, and a lot more. But it’s more known for its unique twist on stealth with the use of hacking. Throughout the majority of the game, you’ll have your phone with you, which is capable of hacking many elements of your surroundings.

You can use your phone to take over cameras and mark enemies, cause explosions, hack AC units to create electric shocks, steal money from people’s bank accounts, and even stun them using electric shocks from their own phones! And not to forget the iconic blackout that turns off all lights and electronics in the area, letting you make a great escape.

Moreover, Marcus is quite proficient in parkour, so you’ll always be able to get around in style no matter where you go. So, if you like hackers, parkour, and cool gadgets, then Watch Dogs 2 is not just a great stealth game, but also one of the best open-world games on PS4 that you can play.

  • The open-world experience in Watch Dogs 2 is exceptional.
  • Great multiplicity in missions will keep the player engaged throughout the game.
  • Visually, Watch Dogs 2 is a very detailed game.
  • The fast travel option makes it easy to transit through the world of Watch Dogs 2.
  • You can do different things with the hacking element of Watch Dogs 2.
  • Players have the freedom to play Watch Dogs 2 in their own way, whether it is stealthy or fierce combat.

  • The layout of the main missions gets repetitive which is boring in Watch Dogs 2.
  • The gunplay experience can be anticlimactic for some players in Watch Dogs 2.
  • During online play, various bugs and glitches ruin the experience of the player which is sub-par.
  • Mission mid-checkpoints are intrusive which is annoying as you will have to start from the beginning if you fail a mission in Watch Dogs 2.

Ghost Of Tsushima

playstation game
Promotional Art for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
  • Release Date: July 17, 2021
  • Developers: Sucker Punch Productions

Ghost of Tsushima is a samurai-styled game where you follow Jin Sakai, who is on a quest to protect Tsushima Island from the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Throughout the game, Jin will be conflicted between choosing to obey the warrior code and fight honorably or despicable ways that can repel the Mongols without many casualties.

The game has amazing combat, story, characters, and a beautiful soundtrack. And with Ghost of Tsushima, you’re open to any play style. You can either go in and take on every enemy at once. Or you can honor the game’s name and become a legendary warrior known as “the Ghost” and use stealth tactics to assassinate your opponents.

Of course, we’ll be focusing on the stealth aspects of the game, and there are quite a lot. You can unlock chained assassinations in the game that allow you to strike and take out several enemies, making stealth a lot easier and accessible.

Additionally, Jin has access to Ghost weapons such as firecrackers, wind chimes, and smoke bombs to create distractions or disorientate enemies. You’ll also have kunai for long-range and explosives to target multiple enemies.

But as you progress further, the game really starts helping you out in stealth by giving you a blowgun to shoot poison darts, causing enemies to hallucinate and attack their allies. So, if you want to feel like a great samurai warrior and a literal ghost, Ghost of Tsushima might be a great choice for you!

  • Ghost of Tsushima delivers a charming cast of characters in a potent campaign.
  • The open-world premise is redesigned in some reflexive ways in Ghost of Tsushima.
  • The combat system is engaging and rewarding in Ghost of Tsushima.
  • The exploration piece of Ghost of Tsushima is ample and intriguing.
  • Ghost of Tsushima has some of the most spectacular graphics on PS5.

  • The major action of the story is a little tiresome and uninteresting in Ghost of Tsushima.
  • Ghost of Tsushima is an easy game to the point that it gets unengaging on the toughest difficulty.

Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection

Assassin's Creed Ezio
Assassin’s Creed Ezio Collection Cover Art
  • Release Date: November 15, 2016
  • Developers: Ubisoft

It would be a sin not to mention any of the Assassin’s Creed games when discussing the best stealth games on the PS4. Although there are so many entries in the franchise, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the Ezio Collection is by far the most classic and popular.

The Ezio Collection follows the Ezio trilogy and covers Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations. All three of the games follow a different story but are interconnected and feature the charismatic and highly skilled assassin, Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

After Ezio’s family was betrayed and assassinated due to corruption and conspiracy, he put himself on a path of vengeance and joined the assassin’s brotherhood. Over there, not only did he learn great skills, but he also became their iconic leader. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Revelations continue the story of Ezio but in his adult and old age.

Besides just a compelling story, the games are known for their great stealth and parkour mechanics. You get to wield one of the well-known weapons in the stealth genre, the hidden wrist blades, as you assassinate your enemies, trying to take down the big bad of the games.

Additionally, you can command assassins from your brotherhood to help out during the stealth moments to perform assassinations according to your command. All the while, you can remain totally far from your target, being hidden in the crowds of Italy.

The game also has great combat. You can wield a sword in parry-like combat while also having the ability to disarm any of your enemies. But the true satisfaction really comes when you climb and sneak past all the enemies and land on your enemy with an air assassination!

  • Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection features three best Assassin’s Creed games in the series which in itself is wonderful.
  • Even if these games are older than a decade, the graphics in Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection is eye-catching.
  • The touchscreen control is extremely beneficial in coursing the map.
  • Stealth mechanics are still better than most of the Triple-A titles these days.

  • During combat or free roam, the input lag can be problematic in Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection.
  • The Quick time events are very easy to execute which gets mundane.
  • Some of the additions seem a little forced which is lackluster.

The Last Of Us

The Last of Us on psr
The Last of Us Cover Art
  • Release Date: June 14, 2013
  • Developers: Naughty Dog

It’s hard not to mention the original The Last of Us in a list of the best stealth games on the PS4, as it literally was a mind-blowing game. Prequel to The Last of Us 2, you play Joel as he sees the world fall victim to a deadly virus that turns everyone into zombies, better known as the infected.

Besides just an amazing narrative that focuses on the bond between Ellie and Joel, you have yourself an amazing game that combines stealth and action. As you make your way to the fireflies, you’ll have to deal with human and infected enemies while some parts of the game will involve puzzle solving to get out of areas.

Joel is not completely useless, in fact, he can be quite violent as he takes down multiple enemies on his own with his brutality. He’ll have access to a wide range of weapons like a revolver, shotgun, rifle, shiv, and even melee weapons like a pipe.

However, many parts of the games are better played stealthily, as one wrong step could cause enemies to ambush you. From hiding behind objects and stealthily taking out enemies to creating distractions, there are many stealth opportunities in the game.

So, if you’re looking for a great game that has zombies, an amazing story, and just overall good gameplay, then The Last of Us is a must-try!

  • The Last of Us has one of the best narratives among story games.
  • The character development is fantastic and very distinctive in The Last of Us.
  • The gameplay is very hybrid and offers a new take on the Survivor Horror Genre.
  • The diversity of enemies in The Last of Us makes the game more fascinating and engrossing.
  • The visuals of The Last of Us are on top of the shelf.

  • The multiplayer mode is crowded with glitches and bugs in The Last of Us.
  • Most of the time The Last of Us will get overly stealthy making it unattainable for some players to play the game.
  • The gameplay gets repetitious after a while in The Last of Us.
  • The skin palettes are lacking in The Last of Us which makes the game wearisome after some time.

Rise Of The Tomb Raider

best games for ps4
Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the second installment in the Survivor trilogy and follows Lara Croft in the search for the legendary city of Kitezh. Her adventure takes her all the way into Siberia, and soon she gets confronted by the paramilitary organization Trinity, which wants to reach the city too, but for immortality.

You can approach the game in two styles, either aggressively or stealthily: it’s up to you. But the game has enough stealth elements for you to have a great time.

Throughout the game, you can scavenge for resources that can be used to craft useful materials. With the help of a bow and arrow, you can remain hidden while taking out enemies at a far distance. You can also use bushes to remain hidden and even cause distractions to draw enemies away from you.

Even if you do get caught, you’ll always have a great variety of weapons, such as assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols, to handle any situation. The game also has melee combat, allowing you to utilize your ice axe and knife to take down any threat! So, if you want a great mix of stealth, guns, and exploration, Rise of The Tomb Raider is a great option!

  • The storyline is packed with multiple twists and top-notch sequences thoroughly in Rise of The Tomb Raider.
  • The RPG elements are extremely engaging and unique keeping the player enrolled throughout the game.
  • Lara Croft is a great protagonist and the character development is still explicable.
  • Rise of The Tomb Raider offers a plethora of gameplay content for the player.
  • The world design and visuals of Rise of The Tomb Raider are awe-inducing.

  • Resource gathering might bore some players as it takes a lot of exploration and searching in Rise of The Tomb Raider.
  • There is not much to do after you complete the main story. Hence, a very little replay value which is sub-par.
  • The Quick time events are still hindering and prove to be a minor issue for some players in Rise of The Tomb Raider.
  • The combat system is not intriguing enough and is rather drab.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex Game
Dues Ex Mankind Divided
  • Release Date: August 23, 2016
  • Developers: Square Enix

Deus Ex Mankind Divided is the fourth title in the Deus Ex series and is a direct sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game combines different gaming genres, such as RPG, first-person shooter, and stealth on the PS4.

You play as Adam Jensen in 2029, where the world is divided between humans and those with augmentations that give them advanced yet artificial organs. After a catastrophic event known as the Aug Incident, where all augmented beings lost control, humans and augmented people were segregated.

Like many shooter games, you can approach Deus Ex: Mankind Divided with multiple playstyles. You can either go guns-blazing while using cover to hide from enemy fire. Or you can make use of Adam’s many augmented abilities that give him a huge advantage in stealthy combat.

With your augmentations, you’ll have access to non-lethal options for quiet approaches. You can, of course, do melee takedowns. But using extensions of your arms, known as nano blades, you can throw projectiles. And you can even mess around with electrical discharges to stun your enemies.

The levels are also designed to support stealth approaches. There’s always some sort of cover that you can get behind. Additionally, you can get into vents to move around easily. So, if you want to play in a cyberpunk world and sneak around, Deus Ex Mankind Divided would be a great game to try out!

  • Deus Ex primarily concentrates on the stealth element which is very engaging for seasoned players of this game.
  • The implementation of brand-new power abilities potentially makes the combat more fun and distinctive in Deus Ex.
  • In terms of visuals, Deus Ex is a spectacular-looking game.
  • The main plot is alluring and keeps the player regaled throughout the game.
  • Players have the liberty of scouring different locations in Deus Ex.

  • The main plot can be perplexing for players who have little to no knowledge of early titles in this franchise.
  • The combat system is not compelling enough and is horrid in Deus Ex.

Uncharted 4

an uncharted game for ps4
Uncharted 4
  • Release Date: May 10, 2016
  • Developers: Naughty Dog

You can’t really classify the Uncharted series as a stealth genre. However, Uncharted 4 included certain stealth mechanics and sections in the game that really nailed what a stealth game should be like.

You follow Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who has been on so many adventures that now he just wants to retire. However, after getting reunited with his brother, they go on one last hunt to find the treasure that they’ve wanted since their childhood.

Throughout most of the game, you’ll be climbing, jumping, puzzle solving, and shooting your way past most of the levels. However, every now and then, you’ll enter an area where you’re meant to either keep your disguise or remain as stealthily as possible.

Like most stealth games, the enemies have a line-of-sight detection system, and it’s indicated by cones above their heads. Because Nathan is so agile and acrobatic, you can usually climb around most of your enemies and get behind them for a takedown.

Uncharted 4 also introduced a rope mechanic in the game that lets you swing around and even come down with an aerial takedown. As mentioned, Uncharted 4 is not a pure stealth game. But if you love a mixture of action games with a slight hint of stealth, then Uncharted 4 is worth considering.

  • Uncharted 4 has some stunning graphics and sound design.
  • One of the best storytelling games of all time.
  • The combat is captivating including the puzzle-solving.
  • The car-chasing scenes in Uncharted 4 are straight out of a movie.
  • Uncharted 4 promotes better stealth and exploring options compared to the previous uncharted games.

  • Uncharted 4 is too scripted and predictable in some events.
  • AI gets duplicative which makes Uncharted 4 bland.

Batman Arkham City

best stealth games ps4
Batman: Arkham City
  • Release Date: October 18, 2011
  • Developers: Rocksteady Studios

There’s already one Batman Arkham game featured in the list, but it’s hard not to include Arkham City, considering how well-received it was when it came out.

Following the events of Arkham Asylum, Gotham has decided to create an entire Arkham City, with Hugo Strange in charge, to lock away all of the dangerous criminals of Gotham. However, everyone is against the idea, and during a protest speech, Bruce Wayne gets kidnapped and taken inside Arkham City.

It’s a common theme among Batman games that you’re weak to bullets, so the darkness is your ally. Arkham City makes you feel like the classic Batman in a more classic-like suit. Like Arkham Knight and other Arkham games, you’ll have many tools at your disposal, such as the Batarang, grapple hook, ability to glide around, heat-vision goggles, and a lot more.

But what makes Arkham City so memorable is how well the stealth mechanics are paced out with the story of the game. You’ll get access to new weapons when they make the most sense in the game, and the pacing never makes you feel too overpowered.

Furthermore, Arkham City has some of the best villain arcs. You have enemies like Ras’ al Ghul, the Joker, two-face, and a lot more. So, if you want to try a Batman stealth game, definitely give Batman Arkham City a shot.

  • The blend of aggressive action and stealth gameplay is thrilling and engaging in Batman Arkham City.
  • All of the characters in Batman Arkham City are on top of the shelf and well-written.
  • In terms of graphics, Batman Arkham City has gritty and breathtaking scenery.
  • The main story is suspenseful and intriguing packed with multiple interactions with some of the greatest villains of Batman.
  • The voice acting and cast of the characters are captivating in Batman Arkham City.
  • The gameplay mechanics and movement system are incredibly smooth which is amazing.

  • The enemy UI can be a bit dumb sometimes and may hinder your progress in Batman Arkham City.
  • Batman Arkham City lacks the iconic atmosphere that has always been present in Batman Games which is lackluster.

  • Players are unable to modify settings during the game which can be annoying.

Little Nightmares 2

Indie game little nightmares 2
Little Nightmares 2
  • Release Date: August 25, 2021
  • Developers: Tarsier Studios

The original Little Nightmares had a unique concept. You got to play a little person in a world filled with people, places, and objects that were way bigger than you. As it was a horror game, the giant scale of everything around you only added to the creepiness of the game.

Little Nightmares 2 takes the same approach and is a sequel to the first game. You get to play as Mono and are accompanied by Six, the protagonist of the first game. In this 2.5D world, you go from point to point and solve puzzles while trying to escape all of the horrors that are out to get you.

Despite being quite short, the game is well-paced, with each level being more exciting than the previous one. There’s always some sort of action that keeps you tense, from jumping through large gaps, escaping by the brink of your hair, to even climbing for your life.

The major stealth moments really come into play when you’re faced with the giant humanoid characters. Although many of those levels will require trial and error, you’ll feel a lot of satisfaction when you sneak past and solve the relevant puzzles to get past them.

So, if you’re a fan of games that make you feel small and useless while also providing you with ways to outsmart almost any threat, then Little Nightmares 2 is a great indie stealth game on PS4 to try out!

  • The puzzles in Little Nightmares 2 are very absorbing to solve and it grabs the player’s undivided attention.
  • The sound design is remarkable.
  • The combat system is exceptional and keeps the player regaled in Little Nightmares 2.
  • The chilly environment adds more excitement to the game.

  • The length of Little Nightmares 2 is very short.
  • In Little Nightmares 2, whenever you are solving a puzzle, the game will start assisting you and give you different clues. This shatters the overall experience of puzzle-solving.
  • The Controls are still a bit ridiculous in Little Nightmares 2.

A Plague Tale Innocence
  • Release Date: May 14, 2019
  • Developers: Asobo Studio

A Plague Tale: Innocence is one of those games that people miss out on. But once you pick it up and give it a chance, it turns out to be one of the most memorable gaming experiences out there.

It is a single-player game that is heavily story-oriented. You follow Amicia in the 14th century in France. There’s a war going on with Britain while the black plague is also at large. Amicia is accompanied by her little brother, Hugo, who has a mysterious sickness that doesn’t seem to be the plague.

So, throughout the game, you, along with Hugo, are trying to escape from the soldiers of the French Inquisition, avoiding the hordes of rats and also trying to figure out what’s wrong with Hugo.

The game pretty much adopts stealth mechanics by making you extremely weak. You can get taken out in one hit, so usually, stealth is the only option to get through most areas.

The rats are another huge part of the game. Many puzzles will have you surrounded by a lot of red-eyed rats. However, they’re scared of fire, so your main objective would be to use that as an advantage to make your way through to the next part of the game. And sometimes, you can use this mechanic to take out enemies by extinguishing their torches, making them susceptible to rat attacks.

So, if you’re looking for a stealth game with a good story, then definitely give A Plague Tale: Innocence a try! It’ll take you on a huge emotional rollercoaster ride and plenty of stealth gameplay!

  • Combat experiences get reductant and quite predictable over time when moving throughout the game.
  • The voice acting gets erratic hence making the story less engrossing in A Plague Tale: Innocence.

indie game Aragami 1
Aragami 1
  • Release Date: October 3, 2016
  • Developers: Lince Works

Aragami is an indie game that isn’t known much for its story, but in terms of stealth gameplay, it’s quite amazing. You get to play as Aragami, an assassin with supernatural abilities and the power to teleport between shadows.

The story is told through text dialogue, and although it’s not the main focus of the game, it’s still an interesting plot. You get summoned by an astral projection of a mysterious woman known as Yamiko. She tasks you with taking down the army of Kaiho so that she can be freed.

But coming onto the gameplay, that’s where Aragami really shines. You’re literally forced to play stealthily as the majority of the enemies in the game can one-shot you, so direct combat is hardly an option.

However, stealth is well thought out in the game. Teleporting from shadow to shadow sets you up to take down enemies with ease. But you need to plan your path carefully as one wrong step could get you spotted.

If you’re the type of player to play with friends, then Aragami has you covered with its co-op mode. You can come up with great stealth strategies where you coordinate attacks, distract enemies, and a lot more. So, if you’re looking for one of the best co-op stealth games on the PS4, then Aragami is a great contender.

  • The narrative is extremely engaging due to the charming characters.
  • Aragami offers different variety in scenarios which keeps the player enrolled throughout the game.
  • Aragami has potential replay value.

  • Aragami is riddled with bugs and glitches which is disappointing.
  • Minor frame rate drops spoil the experience of the player in Aragami.
  • The main story can get repetitive after a while which is lackluster.

Assassin’s Creed origins
  • Release Date: December 15, 2020
  • Developers: Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed Origins is the first time that the Assassin’s Creed franchise decided to adopt the RPG concept fully and made a huge open world that wasn’t completely filled with giant climbable buildings.

Set in Egypt, you play as one of the Medjay, Bayek of Siwa. He is on a quest to seek revenge for the murder of his son. The game doesn’t forget its “origins,” as there is a certain amount of stealth involved. It is worth considering that as Assassin’s Creed Origins took a step in a different direction, the stealth is slightly lesser than previous entries in the franchise but still offers interesting scenarios, and definitely more than games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

You can still approach enemies stealthily and still strike with your hidden blades. But you’ll need to ensure that you’re upgrading them if you want to take out tougher enemies with just one strike. You’ll also have access to your darts, smoke bombs, and the ability to hide in various pieces of furniture.

The Evil Within 2 Cover Art
  • Release Date: October 13, 2017
  • Developers: Tango Gameworks

The Evil Within 2 took a slight departure from its prequel by incorporating a sort of open-world design with side quests as well. The game gets right into the plot from the start; you play as Sebastian Castellanos, who is still trying to recover from the events of the first game.

At the start, you’re mostly a drunk and mourning over your dead daughter, Lily. A former partner, July Kidman, reveals to him that his daughter is alive but got lost in a sort of simulation experiment. And it’s up to him to find and help her!

The game is survival horror. That means you can go rushing in with your guns, but soon you’ll find that you’re completely out of ammo and have no way of defending yourself in an open fight. And that’s where you start realizing that stealth is actually quite a huge part of The Evil Within 2.

Taking cover behind objects and sneaking up on enemies for a silent takedown cannot just help you stay alive longer but can also reserve your resources for some of the bigger fights in the game.

In fact, there is an entire skill tree dedicated to stealth that offers you moves like corner takedowns. And other skills can let you approach enemies quickly while sneaking and increase the time window for quiet takedowns! The Evil Within 2 is a great pick for those that are fans of the Resident Evil series.

  • A refined and moving story is illustrated through strong writing and an enriched narrative in The Evil Within 2.

  • The open world seems lifeless in some scenes in The Evil Within 2.

Invisible Inc.

Invisible Inc.
  • Release Date: April 19, 2016
  • Developers: Klei Entertainment

Invisible Inc. is a tactical espionage game that mixes elements of a roguelike and turn-based game. You basically play as a remote operator for an espionage agency that is under attack from multinational corporations.

You get to control random agents that you unlock after every mission. Each mission is a race against time, where you need to explore the level to find where your objective is. But as it is a turn-based game, you usually know where the guards will move, and you can easily get quite good at the game.

However, that doesn’t mean that there is nothing technical in the game. You have to manage your energy resources that are used to hack cameras and drones and perform other actions. The agents that you have on your team can affect how you gather or spend power.

There is also a sense of danger, considering that any agents that get left behind on the mission remain left behind unless you save them in a later mission. So, you have to try your best to keep everyone alive if you have an amazing team at your disposal.

If you love sci-fi turn-based games and want to feel like you’re in control of a giant espionage team, then Invisible Inc. has everything to keep you engaged for hours!

top down game Volume
  • Release Date: January 6, 2016
  • Developers: Mike Bithell Games

Volume is a top-down indie stealth game for the PS4 that is heavily inspired by the Metal Gear Solid series. In fact, you can think of it as if the Metal Gear Solid series met Pacman.

You get to play as Robert Locksley, who is pretty much a modern Robin Hood. The young thief discovers that there is going to be a military coup that will involve multiple heists. Robert, with the help of a device called the Volume, performs these heists virtually and broadcasts them to warn the entire world of the coup.

Much of the gameplay is actually you just undergoing these heists and stealthily going from one end to the other without being detected by the various safety mechanisms. Of course, like in many games, there are guards, but you can visually see their sight and range through vision cones.

If you get spotted by the guards, it’s not completely game over. You have a chance to break the line of sight. But if you’re not fast enough, then the level restarts. And you can’t kill any of the enemies either. Your only options are to distract and sneak past. If you’re tired of the chaotic stealth games, then Volume might be the game that you’re looking for!

  • The gameplay mechanics are hybrid and solid in Volume.
  • The stealth aspect of Volume is strong and extremely engaging.
  • It offers an innovative level design that keeps the player enrolled throughout the main campaign.
  • Excellent voice acting, innovative gadgets, and a challenging difficulty curve make Volume more intriguing.

escape based game republique
  • Release Date: December 19, 2013
  • Developers: Camouflaj

Republique is a stealth action adventure that plays out episodically, with each episode being more intense than the other. It almost feels like a realistic blend of Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed as you play as a young prisoner girl, without any crazy strength, trying to escape an unknown facility, the Metamorphosis.

The government controls everything inside the facility and reprograms those that live inside to forget everything about the outside world. You play as a kind of like a guardian angel for the main character, Hope, and view her by hacking into cameras and guiding her actions by also controlling her.

As Hope, your main objective is to get past enemies, pickpocket guards to steal items like keys from them, or complete any objective that gets her closer to escaping. Because you’re just a prisoner, you don’t have any intense combat abilities except for the use of pepper spray or taser. And if you get caught, you get taken to a nearby prison cell from which you must escape again.

When you’re controlling the cameras, you get to scout out upcoming areas and also keep Hope in line of sight. But if you do get too confused, the game does help you out by fixing the camera sight itself. You can also freeze time to plan out your actions to look around without worrying about enemies.

But you’ve got to hand it to Republique; they certainly came up with an interesting game. Especially considering that the game was initially released for mobile, and then it got upgraded for PC and PS4! If you want to feel like a badass hacking guardian angel, the game is worth checking out!

  • The main storyline is engaging and interesting in Republique.
  • Multiple hidden collectibles to find throughout the game adds to the depth of Republique.
  • Brilliant voice acting captures the player’s undivided attention.
  • The stealth gameplay is intense and intriguing in Republique.

  • Republique has not the best visuals compared to other games of this genre.
  • Republique fails to effectively utilize VR.
  • The perspective keeps you disconnected from the action in Republique which can be annoying for some players.

Styx: Shards Of Darkness

playstation 4 stealth games
Styx: Shard of Darkness
  • Release Date: March 14, 2017
  • Developers: Cyanide

Styx: Shards of Darkness is a sequel to the original Styx: Master of Shadows game. The game takes place decades after the first game. You play as a unique goblin who has human-like intelligence, despite the other goblins lacking that ability.

There is an interesting story with a lot of jokes and references to pop culture. But if you’re playing a stealth game, then you’re likely looking for something with good gameplay.

The game pretty much forces you to play stealthily, as you’re not that strong in normal combat. You can take out one or two guards if you get spotted, but when they all start coming at you, there’s hardly anything that you can do except run away.

But that’s not an issue, as many mechanics support stealth in Styx: Shards of Darkness. The game offers you many ways to tackle a single level. You can jump on roofs, hide behind objects, hide in barrels, make clones of yourself, hide inside closets, climb ropes, and a lot more!

And if that’s not enough, then there is a pretty vast stealth tree too. The skills, such as cloning yourself, going invisible, or placing specific traps, are paced quite well according to the progression of the game. So, it never feels like you’re too overpowered or under-leveled for any challenge.

On top of that, there is plenty of content in the game. Each level feels like a mini-open world of its own. And the game takes you to some interesting places such as airships, towns, dark caves, and moonlit areas. All of these places make for some great stealth opportunities!

  • The co-op mode is extremely engaging in Styx: Shards of Darkness.
  • Solid and sensitive controls enhance the overall experience of the game.
  • In terms of graphics, Styx: Shards of Darkness is a decent-looking game.
  • The stealth gameplay is on top of the shelf in Styx: Shards of Darkness.

  • Plain mission objectives do not fully utilize the levels in Styx: Shards of Darkness.
  • AI can be a bit dumb sometimes.
  • The combat system is awful and fails to keep the player invested throughout the game.
  • Styx: Shards of Darkness feels old-fashioned.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Cover Art

  • Developers: FromSoftware

Is Sekiro or any other SoulsBorne games really stealth games? Not traditionally. But are there many areas that can let you sneak around and actually give you a better chance of surviving if you do so? Definitely.

Sekiro, like many of FromSoftware’s games, is incredibly challenging with its parry-focused combat. Most of the enemies can kill you within seconds if you’re not careful, and you will undoubtedly die several dozen times trying to defeat a single boss. But that’s what makes these games addicting!

You play as a Shinobi wolf, Sekiro, who takes on a samurai clan that attacked him and kidnapped his lord. This takes you on a whole adventure as you explore the Ashina castle and its surroundings.

So, if you’re looking for a stealth game with extremely hard combat and bosses on the PS4, then Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is worth exploring.

  • Sekiro Shadows Die Twice will test your skills to the core.
  • The combat system is formidable but rewarding in the end in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
  • In Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, the world settings are impressive and spectacular.
  • Each and every boss battle is remarkable in its own way.

  • You can deal with enemies and bosses in multiple ways. Stealth is also an important feature of Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
  • The narrative is interesting and fun to make a player addicted to this game.

  • Playing Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is not everyone’s cup of tea as it is extremely tough and frustrating at the very start of the game.
  • Some boss battles can get really pesky in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
  • The camera can be aggravating sometimes

Shadow Of Mordor

Middle earth game with great stealth
Shadow of Mordor
  • Release Date: September 30, 2014
  • Developers: Monolith Productions

Like the previous entry, Shadow of Mordor also isn’t a conventional pick for a stealth game. But it seems like many fans online love the little stealth mechanics in the game, making it worth the tiny mention.

The stealth in the game is quite simple. You sneak around, use bushes to take cover, and attack enemies when they can’t see you. But the thing is, the stealth mechanics are quite satisfying, especially when you know that the alternative would’ve been a fully-fledged warzone.

The many abilities in the game, like the stealth takedown from the air and using the environment to your advantage, add to the fun. Stealth is, in fact, quite necessary early on in the game when you’re just getting started out and don’t have all of your Godlike abilities.

If you want stealth mechanics but don’t want them to be the main and only thing that you get to do in a game, then Shadow of Mordor is an unconventional stealth game. But if that’s not your cup of tea, then worry not, as we still have various other recommendations for you!

  • The open world is immense and packed with a ton of side content in Shadow Of Mordor.
  • The combat system is intriguing and makes every skill useful in Shadow Of Mordor.
  • Shadow of Mordor gives the majority of gamers more than 20 hours of playtime.
  • The main plot is engaging and well-written in Shadow of Mordor.
  • Enemy progression is on top of the shelf.

  • The controls often feel clunky which makes it hard to deal with formidable enemies in Shadow of Mordor.
  • The story can get repetitive after a while which is lackluster.
  • Sometimes, multiple general bosses appear during a battle which can be frustrating for some players.
  • Several battles can get underwhelming in Shadow of Mordor.

best stealth games ps4
  • Release Date: September 19, 2017
  • Developers: Ultra-Ultra

Echo is definitely a unique game. The game takes place in a planetwide palace that basically creates clones of the player known as Echoes and turns them into enemies.

Although there is a plot present in the game, it usually fades into the background due to the lack of dialogue. Essentially, you’re playing as a woman named En from a group of genetically modified humans. And you’re at the palace in hopes of reviving a former human partner, Foster.

It’s up to you to decide whether you’re going to try to sneak past the enemies or risk using your gun and later having to undergo gunfire as well. So, if you’re looking for a great sci-fi game that requires you to be careful about your actions, then definitely check out Echo!

  • The core game mechanics are brilliantly designed and engaging in Echo.
  • The atmosphere and landscapes are high in detail and distinctive in many ways.
  • Visually, Echo has some phenomenal sci-fi aesthetics.
  • As you progress through the story, intense and scary moments surface which keeps the player enrolled in Echo.

  • The lack of enemy variety is the major flaw of Echo.
  • Echo is not a lengthy game and takes only a few hours to finish.
  • The first few hours of the main story are tedious in Echo.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach
  • Release Date: December 16, 2021
  • Developers: Steel Wool Studios

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a well-known series that basically took off after streamers and Youtubers started playing it. The series introduced a new concept of creepy animatronics, and since then, they’ve expanded on that concept.

If you know about Five Nights at Freddy’s, then you might think that it’s not quite a stealth game because you’re usually in a room, monitoring security cameras and managing power. Well, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach takes a departure from that typical approach and lets you move around.

The series is known for horror, and there are quite a lot of horror moments in the game. From the animatronics chasing you down to the various jump scares, there will always be many things to keep you on edge.

One new addition is that this time around, Freddy Fazbear is actually your ally. He tells you what to do in the game. And you can even hide inside him, as long as he has power. While hidden, none of the other electronics can harm or notice you.

But you have to look for battery timings for many of your gadgets like the torch and even Freddy. Once they run out, you’ll have to go back to charging stations. Regardless, if you love horror games and want to mix that with stealth, then Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is the best stealth horror game on the PS4!

  • The graphics are exceptional. We had no doubt that Steel Wool would thrive in this situation, and they did not dissatisfy.
  • A massive variety of dissimilar places you can investigate throughout the game.
  • Five Night Freddy’s offers a stimulating cast of characters.

  • The story pacing is not regaling in Five Nights At Freddy’s.

  • Release Date: February 28, 2017
  • Developers: Guerrilla Games

Horizon Zero Dawn is an action-adventure RPG with a bunch of stealth mechanics inside. It is a unique take on the typical post-apocalyptic world. Instead of murderous zombies or some sort of disease, the world is overrun by ancient robotic creatures like dinosaurs.

You play as Aloy, who is an outcast of the Nora clan. While competing in a competition known as the Proving to discover her origins and why she’s been an outcast, the Nora clan is attacked by masked bandits. After the attack, the Nora clan explains to Aloy her origins and allows her to go on a quest to seek revenge from the bandits.

You’ll always have your bow and spear that you can use to attack openly. However, there are also many bushes, tall grass, and other hiding spots that you can utilize and shoot from to maintain your cover.

Using rocks or whistling, you can divert or draw the attention of enemies. And with various traps, you can take out enemies with ease! Every enemy has certain weaknesses that you can discover using the “focus.” It will tell you which elements they’re weak in and what are their vital spots. You can use that information to attack accordingly!

If you’re a fan of sci-fi games but also like primal activities like hunting animals using spears and bows, then Horizon Zero Dawn is a great mix of that. And if you love Horizon Zero Dawn, then there is a sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, for you to try out as well!

  • In terms of graphics, Horizon Zero Dawn is mesmerizing.
  • A wide range of new abilities simplifies item handling and navigation in Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • There is a ton of content in both the main game and the expansion.
  • The open world offers an incredible adventure throughout the journey.

  • In Horizon Zero Dawn, selecting waypoints can be quite shaky.
  • The narrative is not the best and is rather underwhelming in Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • Clipping on the environment can occasionally be annoying, especially while attempting to flee from challenging adversaries.

Days Gone

PS4 Days Gone
Days Gone
  • Release Date: April 26, 2019
  • Developers: Bend Studio

On the surface, Days Gone seems like just another zombie survival game, but it’s a bit more than that. The game follows Deacon St. John, an outlaw living in a post-apocalyptic world that fell to a pandemic two years ago.

The pandemic caused many humans to turn into freakers (zombies). And unfortunately, Deacon’s wife was in a camp that got overrun by these freakers, or so Deacon thought. After discovering that she might be alive, he goes on a quest to find her.

Besides just a story that is heavily related to the sidequests of the game as well, there are some amazing gameplay mechanics. You’ll always have your trusty bike with you to help you move around. And sometimes, when you get ambushed by zombies, your main goal would literally be to get back to your bike to get away.

Stealth is optional in the game but is the more strategic way to play. If you’re not shooting with silencers on your gun, you’ll likely attract unwanted attention. And if you maintain your cover, you can sometimes get past without even having to engage in battle. Days Gone is one of the best zombie stealth games for the PS4.

  • Days Gone effectively depicts the storyline as a multi-season saga.
  • The addition of Hordes is on top of the shelf in Days Gone.
  • The survival mechanics are optimistic and well-balanced in Days Gone.
  • Days Gone delivers an expansive world with plenty of side quests to experiment with throughout your journey.

  • Days Gone has some irritating switches between gameplay and cutscenes.
  • The missions are quite redundant in Days Gone.

There are many mechanics to consider while being stealthy in the game. From your stance and how you creep around to how critical your shots are, all these factors play a part in how successful you are at sneaking around.

The game doesn’t play around when giving you options to approach a single task. You can approach the start of a mission in a variety of ways. Either by parachuting in, walking over, or taking a vehicle. Then when you’re in the area, you can use equipment such as drones to tag your enemies and the environment to sneak around.

You also have the option to sync your shots with the AI. But that’s not a problem if you’re playing co-op with your friends. Taking out a base with pure stealth really makes you feel like a ghost. So, if you love co-op and stealth, Ghost Recon Wildlands is a great game to try out!
