Dead Island 2: Character Customization Options

Dead Island 2 allows you to play as 6 different characters, and it is natural that with time, you’d want to spice things up by alternating the look of your characters or weapons to keep things fresh. So the question is are there any Dead Island 2 character customization options? We hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but no, Dead Island 2 doesn’t have any character customization options.

Skill Customization

There are 6 playable characters in Dead Island 2 named: Jacob, Carla, Dani, Ryan, Amy, and Bruno. Each of these characters has unique attributes and skills that are that change their playstyle to various degrees.

There are 5 categories of skills in Dead Island 2 and each category has several empty slots in which you can insert your desired skill card to enhance various traits of your character.

• Innate Skills: These are character-specific skills that are predefined from the start and are active throughout the game. These skills are not interchangeable and are mainly the reason that makes each character unique in their own way.
• Abilities Skills: Abilities Skills are further divided into 5 other subcategories, with each subcategory defining one of the combat abilities of your character. These combat abilities include Defence, Jump Attack, Special Attack, Fury, and Fury Special Attack.
• Survivor Skills: Survivor category buffs your survivability and defensive capabilities.

  

• Slayer Skills: Slayer category raises your attacking and offensive powers.
• Numen Skills: Numen Skills are the ultimate, most powerful skills of your character. They make use of the infected blood coursing through your veins to unleash critical attacks.

Overall, there are tons of skill customization options in Dead Island 2, that allow you to min-max your stats and change your playstyle, by allotting different skill cards to your character. These skill cards can be unlocked by defeating various enemies and bosses. So while there may not be any to alter the look of your character, you certainly can alter your character stats.

Weapon Customization

Dead Island 2 also features weapon customization options via workbenches, that are spread all over the map. These workbenches allow you to perform different operations that can alter the weapon’s usage in combat, for better or worse.

You can perform the following operations on workbenches:

• Repair: Dead Island 2 has a weapon durability system, which means that the weapons you wield will break after a certain amount of usage. Instead of wasting them, you can repair your broken weapons by visiting workbenches.
• Upgrade: Similar to your character, weapons in Dead Island 2 have levels as well, which can be upgraded to match your character level and the current difficulty of the game.
• Modding: Modding is the real star of weapon customization in Dead Island 2. This system allows you to apply various elemental effects to your weapons. Blueprints for more mods unlock as you progress through the game.
• Scarp: In your journey of hacking and slashing through hordes of zombies, you’ll most definitely end up with a lot of weapons that you may have no use of. Instead of having them rot away in your inventory, scrap them using the workbench instead, to gain valuable resources.
• Fabricate: Fabrication is basically the process through which you can craft various blueprints including med kits and mods.

Dead Island 2 is a first-person game, which means that you’ll be seeing your weapon, way more often than your character. While there may not be any cool skins for weapons, the effects of weapon customization are way more apparent in a first-person game as compared to character customization.

Outfits & Skins

At the time of writing this article, there are no outfits available for any of the in-game characters. However, Dambuster Studios have specified a timeline for when the first character packs will be available. These character packs are available as a part of Gold, Deluxe, and HELL-A editions.

The first two character packs are for Jacob and Amy only, and their contents are:

• Silver Star Jacob – Character Pack 1: It includes a “Rodeo Sunset” Outfit and “The Devil Horseshoes” weapon for Jacob.
• Cyber Slayer Amy –  Character Pack 2: It includes a “Neurunner” skin and “The Casimir & Julienne” weapon for Amy. 

Character Packs are probably the closest thing you will character customization in Dead Island 2 unless there are some community mods in the work, that will allow changing your favorite slayer’s hairstyle and clothing.

While there is no concrete evidence that there will be any character packs for other slayers too in the future, however, any news regarding this will come from Dambuster Studios themselves.
