Every difficulty level offers a different type of experience for players to engage with. The players interested in the story will probably choose the easiest one possible. However, if you are ready to take on a challenge, the maddening level might just be for you.

  1. Normal: This is the easiest difficulty level and is suitable for new and intermediate players. It simplifies the gameplay and focuses more on the story. It’s a good choice if you want to experience the narrative without facing too much challenge in battles.
  2. Hard: Hard difficulty increases the combat aspect of the game. It features more enemies, higher enemy stats, and limits the number of rewind charges to 10. It’s recommended for players who are already familiar with the basics of the game and want a more challenging gameplay experience.
  3. Maddening: Maddening difficulty takes the challenge to the next level. It builds upon the difficulty of Hard mode by further increasing enemy stats, adding skills to enemies, and limiting the ability to save progress during battles. Some tutorials are also skipped, and it’s challenging to gain experience and level up. This mode is recommended for advanced players who have already completed the game and are looking for an extremely challenging experience.

Players can choose the difficulty level that best suits their skill level and desire for challenge.

How To Change Difficulty Settings

To change difficulty settings, follow these steps:

  1. Progress in the game until you complete Chapter 3: Hostilities.
  2. Once you’ve reached Chapter 3 and have access to Somniel (where your room is located), go to your room.
  3. Interact with the bed in your room.
  4. You will have the option to change your difficulty settings at this point.

Please note that you can only lower your difficulty at this stage. If you choose to do so, make sure you’re certain about it, as you’ll have to start the game over again to select your preferred difficulty settings if you want to change them later.

Modes In Fire Emblem Engage

While selecting your character and filling up some detail, you will be struck with two different modes you can start your game with.

Casual Mode

In Casual Mode, if any of your characters fall in battle, they will return in the next battle. This mode is more forgiving and allows you to progress through the game without permanently losing any of your comrades. It’s recommended for players who prefer a more relaxed and casual gameplay experience, where mistakes in battles don’t have long-term consequences.

Classic Mode

Wants to spice things up a bit? Classic Mode adds a permadeath system. If any of your comrades die, he dies forever. You can’t revive your comrade and that leaves you with the only option, which is to replace the unit.

With a permadeath system, even Normal difficulty may seem difficult. If you lose even one unit, your whole team can become imbalanced and fall. Worse, if you lose your main fighter or healer.

Recommended for players who are best at strategizing, as you will lose your comrade even if you make one mistake.

Summary

Overall, the difficulty in Fire Emblem Engage matters in the selection of difficulty levels and modes. However, if you’re new and done selecting the difficulty level, you might want to read about Alear, who is the main character, including his/her class, stats, and weapons. Find more about the Bond Rings, which will provide various stat benefits to help you throughout your journey.

Moreover, Etie, from the Fire Emblem Heroes, is also featured in the game and is helpful against aerial enemies. However, for now, that’s it on our guide on Fire Emblem Engage: Difficulty Settings & Modes.
