How To Get Horse Armor In Return To Monkey Island

The step-by-step guide to acquiring the Horse armor item in Return To Monkey Island

Story Highlights
  • Easter eggs or references can put a smile on the face of the player whether it's in the form of an in-game item or other element.
  • The Horse armor in Return to Monkey Island is an item added as a comedy relief from the developers and creator
  • It is surprisingly based on the Horse Armor DLC of the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Unfortunately, it is only available to collect in your inventory if you pre-ordered the game

Return to Monkey Island is a point-and-click adventure title that made its comeback after nearly two decades and is sweeping the charts in the genre on Steam. The joyous sense of nostalgia seeing Guybrush again has hardcore fans ecstatic, while newcomers can easily jump into it without having played the prior titles. If you pre-ordered Return to Monkey Island, there is a chance that you might’ve received the horse armor item in-game.

The item isn’t similar to the various other components that you come across during your adventure. You will still, of course, run into some of the head-scratching puzzles like figuring out Lechuk’s Map Location and discovering all of the Trivia Cards, which are essentially the collectibles of the game.

Aside from the self-explanatory gameplay, the storytelling of the game is another integral aspect that is filled to the brim with charm and wholesome moments. The different Endings can leave players reeling on how the adventure ends, but thankfully it doesn’t impact the overall Game Length too much. How To Unlock The Horse Armor

Developers will, more often than not, sneak in some awesome gags or easter eggs which will often reference the pop-culture media of our industry or even other video game titles too. It is the same case here with the Horse armor in the game, which is more than simple to unlock for anyone who knows about it.

Pre-ordering games have become sort of a norm in the modern age of gaming, but most importantly, it is also a double-edged sword, no matter how you look at it. It is because the game may either do great at launch or fall completely flat on its back and fail miserably, even if the developers made huge promises or assurances. These days you can commonly find pre-order bonuses tied to various different types of video game titles.

These bonuses can include helpful items or accessories to help you get a head start in the game, while at other times, they may as well be there for cosmetic purposes by customizing your character’s appearance. But on rare occasions, the developers may just pull a prank on the player base, which can be either hilarious or foolish depending on your mindset, but we would prefer the former here.

In Return to Monkey Island, the horse armor can only be unlocked if you had already pre-ordered the game before the initial launch date. If you did, you should be able to find it in your inventory marked by the knapsack icon on the bottom left of the screen once you get the ball rolling with Guybrush‘s pirate adventure.

However, it is worth keeping in mind for the long run that this item will only provide unique dialogue interactions with the NPCs and crew members in the story if you drag and drop the horse armor item on their avatars. Aside from that, there is nothing pay-to-win about it, and it is pretty much a harmless easter egg put in by the developers.

We should mention the fact that the armor is essentially taking a jab at the paid horse armor DLC that you could purchase in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which does nothing and only alters the appearance of your trusty steed. Even during the release date trailer of Return to Monkey Island, the item is hilariously mentioned at the very end on how it contributes nothing to the gameplay or puzzles and pretty much just exists in your inventory.

Wrap-Up

Point and Click video games are pretty much a niche genre, but the rare exception of Return to Monkey Island proves that the genre still thrives in the day when renowned AAA titles are taking over the industry. Upon playing the game for the first time, you will instantly fall in love with the creator, Ron Gilbert’s enthusiastic writing style, where every joke and dialogue will feel witty and intriguing.

We absolutely enjoyed every minute of Guybrush’s endearing journey in this new installment, not to mention the clever usage of each puzzle was the icing on the cake to an already amazing title. We discussed each aspect of the game in detail with our Review of Return to Monkey Island.

The creativity of the game is unparalleled to some of the bigger titles in the market, which is understandable since indie developers consistently strive to pour every ounce of care and attention into their games. But with the Monkey Island games, it is fair to say that they haven’t lost touch or skipped any beat since the 90s.

For now, this concludes our guide on how you can the horse armor in the game; let us know if you are enjoying the game or not so far, and if you are, what is your favorite moment so far? If there is anything else that you would like to know, be sure to let us know in the comments section below!
