Mario Strikers Battle League Cups: Types, Modes & Reward

This guide explains the tactics and team composition you need to win all Cups in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Mario’s new sports game Mario Strikers: Battle League, was released on June 10, 2022, making it the third game of the Mario Strikers series. It is developed by Next Level Games and published by Nintendo. The Strikers Club Mode and Cup Battles Mode are this guide’s centerpieces; both are two of the five Mario Strikers Battle modes.

There are options for customization in the game as well. Players can opt for Mario Strikers Battle League Builds and gear to fine-tune the playstyle.

Key Highlights
  • Mario Strikers comes with many game modes, one of which is the “Cup Battle Mode” which is essentially a tournament.
  • The teams in this tournament are broken into two, Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket.
  • There are also finals in this battle mode and the team that goes into finals is the one who managed to defeat all the lower bracket teams.
  • The team that lost twice gets eliminated but before that, they can have a revenge match but it will cost gold.
  • There are also two different difficulties, Normal mode, and Galactic Mode.

Cup Battle Mode in Mario Strikers

This mode is basically a tournament against CPU teams. You can play this solo or get up to 4 players to play against the CPU.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Tournament Format: Cup Battle Mode uses a double-elimination tournament format. You can play this mode solo or with up to 4 players against CPU teams. In a double-elimination tournament, even if you lose one match, you’re not immediately eliminated. You have another chance, but if you lose twice, you’re out of the tournament.
  2. Upper and Lower Brackets: At the beginning of the tournament, all teams are placed in the upper bracket. When a team loses a match, it gets moved to the lower bracket. If a team loses a second time in the lower bracket, they are eliminated from the tournament.
  3. Finals: The tournament culminates in the finals, where one team from each bracket competes. The team from the lower bracket will have faced tougher competition since they had to win more matches to reach the finals. The upper bracket team only needs to win once in the finals, while the lower bracket team must win twice to win the tournament.
  4. Revenge Match: If your team loses a match and is about to be eliminated from the tournament, you have the option for a rematch against the team you just lost to. The first rematch costs 100 coins and is against your previous opponent. There is no limit to the number of rematches you can have, but each subsequent rematch will cost more coins.

Difficulty Options in Cup Battle Mode of Mario Strikers: Battle

You can play this tournament in two modes, which are:

  1. Normal Mode: This is the default mode with straightforward gameplay and fewer technicalities. You start with this mode, and it serves as the foundation for your Cup Battle experience.
  2. Galactic Mode: To unlock Galactic Mode, you must first win all the Cups in Normal Mode. Once unlocked, you can switch between Normal and Galactic Modes by pressing X in the Cup Battle Menu. Galactic Mode offers a higher level of difficulty, but the rewards for success are greater. It provides a more challenging gameplay experience.
