Bethesda is suing Warner Bros. for copying their game Fallout Shelter and making the Westworld mobile game and Warner Bros. has been very silent about all this. Here we have the official response from the company and the following is what the publisher had to say about the lawsuit:
As one of the world’s leading creators of intellectual property, including the ground-breaking television series Westworld, Warner Bros. has a deep respect for intellectual property rights. As such, the assertions by Bethesda Softworks that Warner’s Westworld mobile game improperly used source code from Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter are as surprising as they are unsubstantiated. Warner Bros. has been assured by the game developer, Behaviour Interactive, that Bethesda’s allegations are untrue and that none of Bethesda’s code was used in the Westworld game. Moreover, contrary to Bethesda’s baseless accusation, Warner Bros. at no time “induced” Behaviour to use the Fallout Shelter code in Westworld.
Bethesda claims that the similarities were found based on glitches that have been found in both games, Fallout Shelter and Westworld. Bethesda argued that such a situation would not be possible unless Warner Bros. used code from Fallout Shelter. That would make sense and it an unlikely coincidence that both games have the same glitch. We will have to see how all this holds up in court provided that both the companies actually do follow through and go to the end of the line.
Fallout Shelter is a cool mobile game that you should check out if you have not already. I recently started playing it and it turned out to be a great way to pass the time.
This lawsuit between Bethesda and Warner Bros. should be interesting. Both are pretty big companies and have their influences. I guess, for now, all that we can do is what and see what happened. We will keep you updated regarding the matter so stay tuned for more information.
