At Computex this year Intel revealed that there are two more 8th generation CPU lines that they plan to release, the Whiskey Lake U, and Amber Lake Y. They didn’t give out too many details, or any at all, but that hardly matters now that renowned benchmark leaker Tum Apisak tweeted two pictures of benchmark results relating the new Whiskey Lake processors.
The two processors, the i5-8265 U and the i7-8565 U, are based on 14nm design and also carry the same architecture as previous Kaby Lake processors. That being said these processors will have a quite substantial power boost over the previous versions, having a further optimized process design and better power management. These chips will be able to squeeze out an additional 500 MHz when put to the test.
the i7 is a 4 core 8 thread CPU with 8 MB of L3 cache while running at a cool 15 W, but the coolest part is that the processor has a base clock of 1.8 GHz with a turbo boost of 4.5 GHz. That’s pretty awesome! On the other hand, the i5 will have 4 cores and 8 threads as well with a little less L3 cache at 6 MB, it’ll run at 15 W and have slightly lower clock speeds with a base of 1.6 GHz and turbo boost of 3.9 GHz.
