Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins Is Epic Games Store Exclusive On PC

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin won't be sold on Steam, apparently.

In June, Square Enix announced its upcoming RPG and a spin-off of the Final Fantasy franchise, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Developed by Team Ninja, the game is scheduled to release on 18th March 2022 and many players are anxiously waiting for it. While we didn’t get much information about the game’s release during the E3 2021 announcement, the company has now revealed that the game will be available exclusively on Epic Games Store for PC players.

Yes, you read that correctly. Square Enix is now one of the few companies that have moved their franchises exclusively to Epic Games’ proprietary storefront, Epic Games Store. Earlier today, Square Enix released the release date announcement trailer for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin during its Tokyo Game Show 2021 presentation. At the end of the release date announcement trailer, we get to see the release date for the game and all the storefronts that it’ll be available on.

Of course, we see the Epic Games logo under the release date for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. However, there’s no mention of Steam anywhere. So, it seems like the much-awaited spin-off of the Final Fantasy franchise will be sold on Epic Games Store only. Since Final Fantasy instalments have always been sold on Steam only, Square Enix now making Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin exclusive to Epic Games Store comes as a surprise to many players.

Furthermore, a store page for the game has also been published on the Epic Games Store website and not on Steam, which further confirms that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will certainly not be coming to Steam this time. Epic Games is definitely trying to establish itself as a serious competitor to Steam, with companies like IO Interactive and Ubisoft moving their well-known franchises from Steam to Epic Games Store.

Last month, Microsoft Corporation welcomed Epic Games Store as a third-party application on the new Microsoft Store for Windows 11. Now, we don’t know what Epic Games is doing to receive exclusivity from so many renowned developers and publishers but whatever it’s doing, it’s definitely working. We’re certain that more developers and publishers will be joining the Epic Games Store bandwagon in the future, too.
