PlayStation fans have been wanting cross-play in games for a while now but Sony has been hesitant to comment on the matter. If you had lost all hope then I do not mean to get you all hyped up but Sony Interactive Entertainment America CEO Shawn Layden touched on the matter and said that possibilities were being looked into. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
“We’re hearing it. We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”
Hearing and listening are two different things and while the PS4 boss did say that possibilities were being looked into, this statement is not too reassuring. If you read the statement then you will feel that it does not really sound like a commitment and that is how I feel as well. The media, as well as the public, has been turning up the head on Sony to bring cross-play gaming and if we keep it up, we might see that become a reality one day.
While this statement might not seem like much, it is a much-needed step in the right direction for current generation cross-play. It is amazing to think, how long it has been since the PS4 first came out and we still do not have this feature. If the PlayStation brand stays true to gamers and what they stand for then I see no reason why this cannot be done. I for one am looking forward to the cross-play feature being a thing for Playstation.
It should be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming months and whether or not Sony will allow cross-play.
