Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition Gets A Features Trailer

On July 12th, Bandai Namco’s Youtube channel released a trailer for Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition.  This trailer shows off some of the new content and features that will be in the game.

Mystic Artes

To start off, it looks like we’re getting a multitude of new mystic artes; The pinnacle of power and awesomeness in the Tales games.  Mystic artes are mini-cutscenes where one character does an awesome move and deals huge amounts of damage to an enemy.

From the video, we can see some new mystic artes and some that other Tales characters have used over the years.  It looks like Estelle gets ‘Ultimate Elementia’, which is an arte used by Sorey and another character in Tales of Zestiria.  Rita gets ‘Indignation’, a staple mystic arte in the Tales games that’s been used by Jade (Tales of the Abyss), Genis (Tales of Symphonia), Laphicet (Tales of Berseria), and others.  Raven gets ‘Crisis Rain’ which is only used by him.  People who played the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia in Japanese will recognize this arte from Raven but it is new to the West.

Those are all the artes we see used in the trailer, although it is very likely that other characters will also get new mystic artes that are not shown in the video.

The next thing that comes up in the video is new costumes for characters.  Costumes are a common thing for Tales games to have and it’s no surprise that new ones are being added for this Definitive Edition.

The first set of costumes teased are called the ‘Namco Costumes’.  The trailer only has battle footage making it hard to make out a lot of details on the new costumes.  This first set looks to be different Namco main characters’ costumes given to each of the Vesperia cast.  This was a DLC costume set for the PS3 version, although due to it being in this trailer and the ‘Definitive Edition’ moniker, it’s probably safe to say these costumes won’t be DLC this time around.

The next set of costumes shown is the ‘School Costume’, a staple for the series.  Once again, where school costumes are sometimes DLC (especially in newer titles), these ones should be in the game without paying extra.

After the school costumes, they tease the inclusion of a ‘Tales of the Abyss Costume Set’.  Not a lot to say about this one, it’s great to see Tales of the Abyss getting some love in the form of a costume set.

The last thing this trailer talks about is that there will be new battles.  Unfortunately, the only thing shown is a quick one-on-one fight between Yuri and a man who kind-of looks like Zeus from the Disney Hercules movie.

One of the last quick clips in the video shows Yuri and Flynn doing a joint arte called ‘Twin Wave’.  This seems to imply we might be getting joint artes, possibly along the same lines as the team artes from Tales of Zestiria.

Anyway, that’s all that was in the trailer.  As more trailers for the game come out, expect to see more content on Tales of Vesperia from me.
