The Last of Us Part 2: Ellie Will Have A Companion, Where Is Joel?

Neil Druckmann Talks About The Matter

The Last of Us Part 2 is the second installment in the series and we have seen Ellie evolve into what she is today. When the game comes out we will be able to learn more about the evolution in the character but from what we have seen it is clear that she has grown up a lot since the previous game. There are fans that are interesting in finding out about Joel and whether or not he will be returning in the new game. According to Neil Druckmann:

Well, so, Ellie used to be an NPC, but she’s the protagonist in this story, so the player is controlling Ellie. Umm, it’s safe to say with the game that we made in the past that there will be some NPC with you in this story, even though we’re not showing [the NPC] in this demo.

Neil Druckmann was very careful in choosing his words and did not reveal too much, I guess we will have to play the game in order to find out what Joel’s fate is going to be. The following is what he had to say:

At this point, we’re just ready to show Ellie as a playable character. That may change in the future, but we’re not really ready to talk about that just yet. I think there is quite a lot about this game that has not yet been revealed.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a big PS4 exclusive title and it was a huge part of the Sony conference at E3 2018. Druckmann also talked about the message of the game and what the core values are going to be about. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

A lot of our conversations are about hate, but it’s a more complicated, kind of nuanced thing, which is… I’m sure you’ve been in a situation where you’ve witnessed an atrocity. You’ve seen someone torture an animal, or they’ve pushed you too far and, for a second, your mind goes somewhere… primitive, where you want to hurt someone.

There is no release date for The Last of Us Part 2 yet but the game will be coming out sometime in 2019.
