Founded in 2013, MixedBag is an italian based independent development studio and publisher focused on creating and developing new IPs for console, PC and mobile. They have, in collaboration with Marco Mastropaolo, announced its new upcoming title, Waking Violet.
The short one minute trailer displays the simple game play exhibited in the title doesn’t have much going for it in terms of graphical significance but the underlying foundations are what sets this game apart, that and its cross platform compatibility. Waking Violet is a classic 2D top-down puzzle game, but with awesome spells and a unique time rewind mechanic.
The player controls a shy teen, Violet who has the desire to grow up but is stuck in a dream which she can’t wake up from, apparently. Every puzzle solved, takes violet one step closer to waking up and going back to the real life. The game includes:
- 42 unforgiving levels
- Explore a magical world and discover what (or who) is keeping you there
- Gain mana, cast spells, fail, undo your moves and try again
- Exciting spells: shoot fireballs, walk on water, clone yourself to solve crazy levels
- Beautiful hand-drawn graphics with a unique style
- Amazing downtempo music to stimulate your concentration
Behind the story, there is a bigger reason for Violet to be stuck in the dream and reaching for the end may contain the answer Violet is looking for.
The best part about this puzzle, adventure game is that it simply does not matter what device you’re on or may prefer to use, it available on PS4, Vita, Switch, Steam, Android and iOS (sorry Xbox One fans). Waking Violet is available for preorder today on Nintendo Switch for a special price of 4.99€ / 4.99$ (full game price at launch will be 6.99€ / 6.99$). The full game will be available on June 29 on Nintendo Switch and Steam and on July 3 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game will be cross buy on PlayStation.
