In an interview with The New York Times, Strangers Things actor David Harbour and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer have talked about their first debut in the gaming industry. The Hollywood actors are featured in the new Alone in the Dark remake, joining many other stars who have already set foot in the world of video games. While praising the industry, David Harbour said that he sees a lasting future for games compared to two-hour movies.
I hope that people are still watching two-hour movies decades from now, but I know they will be playing video games,” said David Harbour.
In the Alone in the Dark remake, David Harbour will play the role of a private investigator—Edward Carnby—that her character—Emily Hartwood—hires in the game. The story will revolve around investigating the disappearance of Jeremy Hartwood, Emily’s uncle in a mental hospital. Jodie Comer has also expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming remake while reminiscing about her first debut in the gaming industry,
It’s so incredible to be able to kind of step out of what you usually do and explore something new, and kind of challenge yourself,” said Jodie Comer.
Hollywood Actors Can Play A Huge Role In The Success Of Video Games
Many popular stars have started appearing in games over the last decade. While their appearance is relatively common in the AAA industry, it can be a make-or-break moment for indie games. However, Alone in the Dark remake’s casting director Michael Csurics also thinks that “having a celebrity definitely tilts the scales on a budget.”
If you saw David Harbour and Jodie Comer were starring in a new ‘Alone in the Dark’ horror film, you’d probably go see it,” said the casting director.
