A new Unity report claims that 62% of game studios are already using AI in game development. It elaborates that more and more studios have been adopting the use of AI—especially GenAI— to automate and boost many tedious parts of development. AI use has also been credited with helping save time and increase efficiency. It is utilized for improving character animations, speeding up code writing, and the sort.

A major use of AI is in prototyping during game development, with up to 68% of devs surveyed admitting to using AI to speed up the process. Another facet where AI is mostly integrated is worldbuilding and NPC creation. 56% of AI adopters used it for worldbuilding, while 64% opted to utilize it to populate game worlds with NPCs. Over 71% of devs that have used AI claimed that it has improved their delivery and operations.

Many Studios Are Opting Towards Using GenAI To Develop Games

The Unity Sentis beta user survey states that out of 7062 participants, 63% have used GenAI to create various assets. The usage of GenAI has significantly increased in the last few years due to monumental improvements in the tech. Many surveyed devs have also expressed concerns about the rising dependence on AI to develop games.

However, a recent report by Keywords Studios clarified that GenAI is “unable to replace talent.” The support studio tried to create a game solely by using over 400 AI tools but failed to achieve the desired results. Therefore, it concluded that humans cannot be replaced by the current tech.
