Years Later, Kingdom Come: Deliverance Does Nothing But Deliver

And the sequel is around the corner.

Story Highlights

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of the most rip-roaring action RPGs in the business right now.
  • It’s set in medieval times and has the unpredictability factor going for it in droves.
  • The game is also 90% off on Steam at the moment, should you choose to pick it up.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, now this is a type of game that you don’t come across too often, I’ll tell you that. You must be thinking: Who doesn’t run into RPGs these days? Well, everyone does, but the way Kingdom Come has actually delivered (pardon the pun), it baffles me — having played the title for more than 5 years now — the kind of talent that Warhorse Studios has been able to accumulate.

It’s crazy, really. The title came out in 2018, and it still feels so fresh to play. And the best part? The sequel to this thriller, which also happens to be one of the most jaw-dropping games to look forward to, is just around the corner, with a release date of February 11, 2025. Its gameplay was teased just two weeks ago, and watching that has made me get right back into the original once again.

As such, I decided to put together this piece to help make new players understand why they should be picking up the game in quesiton if they have done it the disservice of not trying it out already.

In the extended RPG realm, there’s quite nothing like Kingdom Come: Deliverance out there.”

Unbeatable Value For Money

There’s just no denying how value-driven this game is. I mean, the first 5-10 hours or so feel like the tutorial, and it’s only then that you start getting a grasp of how things work in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The unique progression system of the game works in its favor to entice players to keep working on the fundamentals, and that’s where you get stuck inside a loop of seemingly endless replayability.

You start out as a muddled son of a blacksmith, who has no skills to his name whatsoever and aspires to survive in a grueling, hyperrealistic world. It’s very soon that you realize that everything that you’ve conventionally learned of video games up until now is not going to fly in Kingdom Come, and I mean that with all my heart.

All the positives aside, it must be understood that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not everyone, and that’s okay.”

To actually be able to have fun with the game, you need to give it time. Time enough that you understand that the term “hyperrealism” associated with the RPG isn’t just a gimmick, but instead the cornerstone of Kingdom Come. I’ve come across many wanting to like the game, but it’s just not possible until you stick around and offer your due attention to the title.

Some issues, however, have to be pointed out, because they stick out like a sore thumb and are absolutely agreeable when players talk about them. One of them is the “save” mechanic, which necessitates the presence of an in-game resource. Without it, you cannot save your game, and if you happen to die, you start from the beginning. That’s hardcore and can end you up with losing days’ worth of progress.

A simple solution here, might I point toward it, is the Unlimited Saving mod. When you feel like you’re too good for the game, uninstall the mod and have a shot at it.

Fantastic Attention To Detail That Offers Genuine Immersion

Now what truly sets Kingdom Come: Deliverance apart from regular RPGs is its world design. Bear with me for a moment here.

You’ve got all these open-world games out there that are just loaded to the brim with sceneries and vistas to stuff up the environment with, but they hardly ever mean anything outside of looking pretty. With Kingdom Come, the case is quite different. It sports a world that feels lived in, and it makes you feel like a side character, where the world does not revolve around you.

Combine that with fantastic reactivity and a gameplay experience that’s unpredictable like nothing else, and your immersion levels are shot high up in the sky, no questions asked. The open-world is just so high-effort, you can’t help but take a moment to appreciate the show that Warhorse Studios has put on in the game.

I brewed around 300 vitality potions in order to level up my alchemy skill and sold them all to the Rattay alchemist. I returned 2 days later and this is what his shop looks like now.

Plus, Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s world is huge. The fact of the matter is, the entirety of it makes you feel small, and there’s nothing you can do about it until you start learning the title’s ins and outs.

The Best Part Is, The Game’s Occasionally On Sale, Including Now

Seriously, give Kingdom Come a go. The RPG is currently $2.29 on Steam, which is, well, peanuts compared to the value it’s offering out there. It’s a game I regret not playing it sooner, but you don’t have to.
