Story Highlights
- Subnautica is one of the best survival games in the business, known for its “horror” element.
- Unknown Worlds Entertainment — the developer — has revealed a teaser for the game’s sequel recently.
- Subnautica 2 will launch to early access in 2025 for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
I’ve talked about Subnautica quite a few times on different occasions writing at eXputer, and each time, I’m trying to recommend people to try this game. With Subnautica 2 now revealed and finally coming, you can assume that I’m more than just over the moon at the moment, with Unknown Worlds Entertainment planning a 2025 early access release for the action-adventure survival-based title.

The trailer seemingly showcases massive visual improvements over the first iteration, even if it’s not in-game footage, and we’re certainly onto something huge here. Remind me to get myself at least 3 pairs of fresh pants when this one drops, and that too only for the tutorial.
Immerse yourself in a new adventure with Subnautica 2, an open-water survival game from the creators of the Subnautica series. Play alone or with friends as you explore alluring biomes and discover fascinating creatures,” reads the official description.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment says that players can expect to sink their teeth into the title sometime in 2025; an exact date will arrive at a later time. PlayStation consoles do not entertain early access, but Xbox being affiliated with PC does, so it’ll be these two platforms that you can employ to play Subnautica 2 next year.
However, here’s why that may not be such a good idea.
Why You Should Look Forward To Playing Subnautica In 2028

That subheading is no joke. Hear me out.
The first Subnautica stayed in early access for about 3 years, and at the start of that period, the game was bugged, messy, and nowhere near the quality it’s at now. It’s unwise to assume that Subnautica 2 is not going to follow suit, and for a game like this, it’s highly preferable to wait for the 1.0 release rather than jumping in on the early access launch.
You sully your experience that way. Give Unknown Worlds enough time to tighten the story and have the biomes more fleshed out. It’s the best way to play a title like Subanutica 2.
Oh, and please Unknown Worlds, don’t repeat the same mistake of putting the voiced storytelling from Subnautica: Below Zero in the sequel.
