Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Now Has A “Custom Items” Feature

Players can now customize sabotaging items any way they like in-game.

Super Mario Bros. has become one of the biggest franchises in the world since its inception in 1985. Not only is the character the mascot of Nintendo, but it has diversified into several genres after the first game. One of them is the kart racing series called Mario Kart, which has been one of the biggest successes of the brand selling more than 164 million copies worldwide.

The most recent game in the series, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got an update that has added a major feature. Players can now customize the items available for the racer to use and sabotage others in the game. Considering how essential these items are to gameplay, this is a big deal for the fans.

Major Takeaways:

  • Players can now customize which items are available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
  • This feature is available in single-player offline races and some online modes.
  • Team battles also feature this customization, players can assign certain items to both teams.

Nintendo Europe first announced this news on its official Twitter page. Players can obtain this feature through a free update now and this will take no money. The Tweet explains all the ways you can customize items now, and it is a game changer for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

You can select which items appear in the offline VS Races mode. Other than that you can also customize the items available in a few online modes. Now, these online modes aren’t listed here but we hope they will also allow some freedom in customization.

Probably the best use of this mechanic is in the Team races and Battles mode. You can give certain items to one team, and allocate other things to the opponent. In this way, both teams will have different ways to sabotage opponents depending on what they choose.

For example, one team can have Spiny Shells, while the other can have Blue Shells. So, team battles are going to be much more fun moving forward due to this mechanic. One another way this feature helps players is you can remove items you don’t like.

To give an illustration, if a player finds Blue shells annoying, just remove them from the race. Similarly, if you think the Lightning bolt is too OP, save yourself the hassle and turn it off. Hence, you can mold the racing experience in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe any way you like now.

If any of you don’t like the sabotaging items at all, there is an option to turn all items off. So, it’s safe to say that this feature has options for every Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fan out there. Even though a feature like this should have been in the game already, it’s good to finally see it in action.
