With its release on the way, Resident Evil 4: Remake is making headlines once again. New information has been revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer’s magazine. This time, however, the conversation is over the rain effects of the game or as some people are calling it, “milk rain.”
As part of Game Informer’s exclusive coverage of the game, new images and videos have been released. As is seen in the video, the raindrops shown in the game are unusually prominent. The degree of prominence makes them look like milk drops instead of actual rain.
A similar debate took place in the past, prior to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 over its puddles. Players around the world were sad to see the fidelity of these puddles being reduced from shiny spots of water to something disgustingly inferior.
Insomniac games later addressed this as being a result of a size reduction and not a visual downgrade.
It’s just a change in the puddle size, there’s no downgrade at all

Resident Evil 4: Remake has a release date of 23rd March 2023. Taking this into account, the game should be close to going gold if it hasn’t already. In light of this and the new reveals, people have been voicing their concerns regarding the atmosphere in the remake and how it might not live up to the original.
According to the players, there is a disconnect between the original and the remake when it comes to the atmosphere. Not only that, but the lighting effect in the remake is not casting shadows as well as in the original. This subtracts from the experience of the upcoming remake as the standard set by the original was pretty high.
Furthermore, people have commented on the remake looking washed out. While some people may look at it that way, it’s a fact that the color scheme of Resident Evil 4 was never vibrant, to begin with. It’s set in a rural part of Europe and utilizes a linear color scheme in order to elevate its narrative. The remake improves upon this in that regard.
Some people have pointed out that this is a video, and thus a lot of factors are at play, implying the final version will be different.

A lot goes into the development of a game, and with the legacy of Capcom‘s original Resident Evil 4 and their knowledge of the previous remakes in the series, we can assume that the final version will be a refined product.
Graphics are the first thing that we notice in any form of media. What stood out the most in this new reveal were the rain effects. While it could definitely use some polish, the overall reveal showed the game to be extremely polished and maintained the same standard set by its predecessors.
With the launch just around the corner, we hope Resident Evil 4: Remake will find the same level of success as the original and set a new standard for remakes.
