Warzone 2 Boosts Modern Warfare 2’s Concurrent Player Count to 450,000 On Steam

The title was able to become Steam's most played game for a while, breaking all expectations.

One of the most anticipated titles of 2022 launched roughly a day ago, and it has already reached the skies. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 was released with a bang, causing a resurgence of players to pour into Modern Warfare 2 while ascending numbers that were deemed unlikely for Call of Duty’s latest entry just a few months ago.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s concurrent player count skyrocketed after its launch and gained a staggering 450,000 concurrent users actively playing together, as tracked by SteamDB. The sudden rise in numbers is a brilliant improvement over the saddening performance and aftermath following Vanguard’s launch last year.

Major Takeaway

  • Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s launch caused an enormous number of players to flood into the game, shooting the figures up to 450k.
  • Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s concurrent players smashed the series’ previous record set by MW2 just a couple of weeks ago.
  • The title currently stands as Steam’s third most-played game, but it occupied the first spot for a while after its release.
  • It surpassed the likes of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 and still overshadows some massively popular games.

Warzone 2 reached its all-time peak about 11 hours ago, hitting a total of 452k active players simultaneously. The game achieved the immense figure a few hours after its launch. Moreover, the current player count is already competing with the set record, with over 430,000 players flooding the Warzone 2 servers.

That is not all; Warzone 2 seemingly garnered enough players to contest the established giants like CS: GO and Dota 2, becoming the most-played game on Steam. The conquest lasted for a few hours before it declined to the third spot, which is still a prominent achievement. Warzone 2 currently outranks some massively prevalent games.

Activision’s decision to bring the game back on Steam has proven to be correct, judging by the active player base. Steam is more accessible since it features the franchise’s overall roster in one place. Furthermore, the total concurrent figure could be much higher if Battlenet players are counted.

The all-time peak of concurrent player count may ripen further and again surpass the top 2 titles into the coming weekend as more players get around to playing it. Steam sees a vast resurgence of gamers during the weekend days.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was a highly anticipated game for the franchise, and it could have caused the series’ foray into obscurity or popularity. The title met the majority’s expectations and garnered a huge player base. It is a massive upgrade over some of the previous dull renditions like Vanguard.

For instance, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s beta turned out to be the largest in the franchise’s history, serving as a good hunch. Modern Warfare 2 became COD’s most significant launch only after ten days, earning over $1 billion.

A multitude of users had swarmed the game, and now Warzone 2’s eventual launch has further added to the franchise’s newfound revival.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is evidently an incredibly fun title for new and veteran players, and the new DMZ mod has also been well-received. Additionally, the progress from both games carries over except for a few features, like some guns exclusive to Warzone 2. We can expect it to be breaking more milestones in the near future.
