EA to Reveal FIFA, Need for Speed, And Skate In July

So many games, so little time.

Update: You may Read FIFA 23 Guides now as its out as we had thought.

Sources have confirmed that EA is set to reveal several games in July. The first, as I reported via is the long-anticipated Skate 4, but EA is also set to reveal both Need for Speed and FIFA in the same month too.

It’s not entirely clear when each game will be revealed, but it’s understood that the Need for Speed and FIFA announcements are likely to take place in the second half of the month.

EA has already stated that the studio will not have an EA Play this year and instead will reveal games “when they are ready,” so although there will be several big announcements in such a short space of time, it doesn’t seem like EA will have a big presentation.

Need for Speed

It’s understood that this year’s Need for Speed title will be slightly different from past installments. Industry Insider Jeff Grubb has recently said that the title will “adopt a stylized aesthetic combing photorealistic graphics with anime elements.”

These details are what I’ve also heard, with one source suggesting that the character design is similar to the likes of The Boondocks TV series that aired from 2005 – 2014.

Grubb has also said that the cars will have the aesthetic of car commercials where there are “cartoon flames and stuff flying off it.” From my own sources, this is the case, with cars having smoke, wind, and fire coming off the car when going fast, drifting, and more.

A big feature coming to the game is “Meetups,” where players can meet up around the map and initiate races. The tracks around the map are apparently “unique,” with one source saying the map has a large train going through it as you’re racing (I guess we’ll have to leave this to the imagination).

Although I couldn’t 100% corroborate the title’s name, the title “Need for Speed: Unbound” has been floating around a bit, but it’s currently unclear if that is the codename.

FIFA

This will be the last FIFA game as we know it, with the FIFA and EA partnership ending after the release of FIFA 23.

For those of you not in the loop with FIFA news, it’s understood that EA will be incorporating female leagues into FIFA 23, with the publisher aiming to make FIFA 23 a more “unified title”. Both the men’s and women’s World Cups will be coming to the game, with the addition of cross-play to make this unified experience a reality.

FIFA 23 was intended to be the first FIFA title to incorporate cross-play, but a recent blog post on the official FIFA 22 website had said that the feature will be tested in the game in the “near future”.

Although rumors have suggested that FIFA 23 will also be a free-to-play title, it’s believed that this is not the case and the title will indeed be a full-priced premium game.

In May, EA confirmed that it will launch “a new era in July 2023” with the introduction of its EA Sports FC series, of which EA retains over 300 licensing deals.

The publisher has said that thanks to these deals, fans will get “the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes” that they have had during the FIFA partnership.

It’s unclear where FIFA will take the series after its EA deal expires, but the most obvious choice would likely be Konami, which develops the eFootball series.

I’ve covered the FIFA title and its detailers extensively over on VGC and XFire, so I recommend checking out those articles for more information.

EA seems to have a lot in the pipeline though and with Skate 4, FIFA 23, and Need for Speed set to be revealed in July, I am wondering why EA Play was off the cards.

As always, I’ll keep you updated as I hear more!

UPDATE: Sources have since updated me on a potential release date for each game.

Need for Speed – November 4th, 2022.
FIFA 23 – September 30th, 2022.
Skate 4 – TBA (Likely means 2023).
