Miyazaki Spends 95% Of Time “Directing Games” Despite Being FromSoftware President

His passion for games is the reason behind FromSoftware's success.

Story Highlights

  • Hidetaka Miyazaki has said he enjoys directing games, spending 95% of his time on it.
  • He is more interested in focusing on game development despite being FromSoftware president.
  • The president also touches on the decision to make Shadow of the Erdtree as difficult as it is.

In an interview with The Guardian, Hidetaka Miyazaki clarified he enjoys directing games despite being the FromSoftware president. His passion runs so deep that he spends 95% of his time working on them. His work style does not allow him to sit around in an office all day, so he often engages with the devs and directors to work on projects.

I have had the title of president for almost 10 years now, but I would say about 95% of what I do at the company and how I spend my time is directed towards making games and directing games. Using that ratio, you could say I only actually have about six months’ experience as an executive!” says Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Miyazaki also said he enjoys nurturing the young directors and talents at FromSoftware. This hands-on approach will help the president get his expertise to the next generation.

I really get my hands dirty and continue to make games together, through which I hope I can communicate my process to a different generation of talent.”

Hidetaka Miyazaki Is Satisfied With How Elden Ring Turned Out

The interview with the FromSoftware president also touches on Elden Ring. It is a tad bit more approachable for newcomers due to its open-world design. Miyazaki claims he did not want players to “feel claustrophobic or overly limited in the scope of what they’re able to do and experience in that world.
