The Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most, if not the most, prominent franchises from Rockstar Games. GTA V was the most recent instalment to the franchise and still has millions of active players even after almost 8 years since its release. GTA VI is the upcoming sequel to the franchise and speculations have been going around for years now. However, a new job listing posted on the Rockstar Games website reveals that the upcoming instalment may release sooner than expected.
In April 2019, it was confirmed that Rockstar Interactive India was working on GTA VI after Bibin Michael’s, a former employee, résumé started circulating online. The résumé clearly stated that the former employee, who had also been credited on Red Dead Redemption 2, worked on “concept vehicles matching with the real world for GTA 5 DLC and GTA 6“. Earlier today, eXputer discovered a job listing, posted this week on the Rockstar Games website for a “game tester” required in Rockstar Interactive India. The place is Banglore, which is the same as Bibin worked 4 years ago.
Now, we don’t have a confirmation as to which game it is that Rockstar Interactive India requires a game tester for. However, based on the hints we’ve received from the studio’s office in India, we can assume that it’s for GTA VI.
Additionally, the job listing also states that the candidate should have “knowledge and experience of Rockstar’s recent titles”. The Grand Theft Auto series is the only franchise from the company that has 15 instalments, thereby providing enough know-how of the franchise.
Furthermore, another requirement for the job is that the “candidates must be 18 years of age and above”. Since Bully is rated “Teen” (13 years and above) and the Grand Theft Auto series is rated “Mature 17+” (17 years or above) by ESRB and these are the only two franchises from the company expecting a sequel, we can safely conclude that it’s a Grand Theft Auto instalment that Rockstar Interactive India probably requires a game tester for.
Earlier this week, we also reported that a remastered trilogy of the Grand Theft Auto series, including GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, would come out later this year. Hence, Rockstar Interactive India could be hiring a game tester for the remastered trilogy, too. Although, this isn’t certain (yet).
While this news does sound enticing, it certainly isn’t a confirmation in any way. There have been many rumours and speculations about GTA VI in the past. Hence, it should all be taken with a grain of salt. From what we know so far, the upcoming sequel will be set in a modern-day version of Vice City and is rumoured to release sometime in 2025. Unfortunately, these are all estimations. This is the most we’ve had to wait for a new instalment to the franchise, so we hope that it lives up to the expectations!
