About two months ago, a dataminer on Twitter found a mention of Discord integration in the Oculus mobile app, now known as the Meta Quest app, by reverse-engineering it. Now, more info has been datamined from the app after its recent update.
MAJOR TAKEAWAYS
- A dataminer has found mentions of Discord in the Meta Quest app that point to its possible integration into the VR headsets.
- The discovery comes after a similar discovery in August by the same dataminer.
- According to the datamine, the players will now be able to join each other’s VR sessions through discord in addition to sharing gaming activity.
- It is not clear whether this feature will be available on all Meta Quest headsets or just on the upcoming Quest 3.
The info found two months ago had only mentions of the Discord OAuth URL and the Discord icon. The dataminer also found “strings” of information that suggested that the players might be able to share their VR gaming activity on Discord.
Now the info datamined after the new update all but confirms this feature. In addition to sharing their gaming activity, the players will be able to join each other’s sessions through Discord.
Though it is not known how this integration would work. But it is speculated that Discord will most likely be integrated through the Meta Quest app. As this info was datamined from the Meta Quest app.
This feature will help Meta in its efforts to mainstream Metaverse and VR gaming. As gamers widely use Discord all around the world. The dataminers also found mentions of QR code pairing. It is a feature long requested by the users.
Meta, through its subsidiary, Reality Labs, has been at the forefront of VR technology for some years now. They are far ahead of other competitors like Sony, which is now looking set to catch up to Meta with the release of PSVR2, and Apple, which is still finding its feet in the market.
Because of the ever-growing competition, Meta has to be on its toes. It works to provide the best experience to its VR headset users. Integrating Discord and adding QR code pairing features into its VR headsets is part of those efforts. It is unclear when this feature will be officially released.
It is also not clear whether these features will be available on all Meta Quest headsets or just the Quest 3. But there is a possibility that the feature might only be released for Quest 3 as there were also mentions of Eureka, the codename for Quest 3.
