Microsoft Possibly in Talks for a New Acquisition

Major Nelson isn't coming slow with the hints

Larry Hryb, also known as “Major Nelson” is the director of programming for Xbox Live. He recently suggested that Microsoft might be working on a new developer acquisition in his recent podcast. The podcast also featured an interview with the developer of the recent Microsoft exclusive “Death’s Door.”

Near the end of his hour-long podcast, Major Nelson states, “I think I may bring a special guest” and I’m working on it right now so stay tuned.” He further stated that it depends on whether the contract is done by saying, “Assuming we can get the contract work done.” He ended the conversation by saying, “We have the top lawyers on this case.

Whether this is a new developer acquisition or something related to Game Pass is not yet confirmed, but it’s safe to assume that Microsoft is very confident about whatever they are bringing to the table to be mentioning it so openly.

Microsoft has been on a roll recently, acquiring studios left and right for a long time now so fan speculation has been high with people guessing as to what studio or publisher Microsoft may acquire in the future. Microsoft’s recent noteworthy acquisition was of the publisher of genre-defining franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout as well as other major franchises like DOOM and Wolfenstein with “Bethesda Softworks” – an acquisition that cost the tech giant a whopping $7.5 billion.

Devolver Digital’s latest title “Death’s Door”

Microsoft also recently brought out a new title from the top-indie publisher “Devolver Digital” to their catalog with Death’s Door. An indie action rogue-like developed by Acid Nerve.

The game has launched to a critical reception with reviewers praising the game for its simplicity and challenging classic Zelda-esque dungeon crawler elements. The game launched last week on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As of now, there are no rumors of whether there is a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4/5 port in the works.
