- During a roundtable discussion celebrating the Final Fantasy franchise’s 35th anniversary, Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer, Yoshinori Kitase, talked about the difficulties of working on a Final Fantasy 6 remake.
Final Fantasy 6 is widely regarded by series veterans as one of the best – if not the best – entries in the franchise and it seems many within Square Enix feel the same notion. During an official roundtable discussion as the celebration of the series’ 35th anniversary, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase addressed the possibility of an FF6 remake.
The conversation was translated by Genki_JPN on Twitter. When asked when they would make a remake of FF6, Kitase-san replied,
I think FF6 Remake would be difficult. FF7 Remake is not yet finished so I am not able to think about it… But for FF6 there are many FF6 fans inside the company and they often ask me ‘When are we making 6?'”
Hironobu Sakaguchi, the director behind Final Fantasy 6, was also present at the event. Sakaguchi-san talked about the difficulty of making a remake, citing the game’s pixel graphics as a major hurdle in recreating the game from scratch, particularly due to the necessary changes in the story and creating entirely new CGI from the ground up.
Hironobu Sakaguchi also said that as FF6 is a pixel based game they would have to change the story and making it into CG would be very hard to do, but he then asked Kitase "Won't you release it a little sooner?" lol
Kitase said it is not easy.Source: https://t.co/gd9slUjGYL

Final Fantasy 6 has seen numerous re-releases and remasters over the years. Since the game’s SNES release in 1994, the game has graced just about every console you can think of. Even newer hardware such as the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch have seen the game thanks to the newly released Pixel Remasters of the first 6 Final Fantasy titles.
The series’ newest upcoming installment is also on the horizon as Final Fantasy 16 launches tomorrow to an eagerly excited audience of fans and newcomers alike. After a relatively relaxed marketing push, the game exploded in popularity with its 2-hour long demo showcasing the game’s entire prologue segment as well as another demo afterward that showcased its masterful combat system.
