Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Says He Won’t Let Layoffs Happen At FromSoftware

Amidst devastating layoffs in the video game industry, Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to ensure that his company isn't affected as long as he's in charge.

Story Highlights

  • FromSoftware’s president has said he’ll ensure the company isn’t affected by layoffs.
  • Hidetaka Miyazaki talked about his views and those of FromSoftware’s parent company, Kodakawa.
  • Miyazaki said that, as long as he’s in charge, he wont let layoffs happen at FromSoftware.

During an interview with PC Gamer, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki assured the fans that while he can’t say with complete certainty that FromSoftware won’t be affected by the devastating layoffs in the video game industry, he’s determined not to allow it to happen, as long as the company is his responsibility

In recent years, the video game industry has seen harsh layoffs, including at the Embracer Group, Microsoft, EA, and Sony. Miyazaki was asked about the layoffs and the business relationship between FromSoftware and its parent company, Kodakawa, to which the Elden Ring director replied that he wouldn’t wish so on the staff at FromSoftware in a million years and that the parent company Kodakawa shared that view.

And I think the people at Kadokawa, our parent company, understand that I hold this view very strongly,” Miyazaki said. “We can’t say with complete certainty what the future’s going to hold for From and Kadokawa—at least as long as this company is my responsibility, that’s something I would not let happen.”

Elden Ring is easily FromSoftware’s best-selling title ever and recently crossed the 25 million sales mark. The recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for the title has also received critical acclaim, scoring a solid 95 at Metacritic and a 5/5 in eXputer’s review. While their games have been doing exceptionally well, we can’t completely rule out the possibility of the company operating on loss, considering how much money game development requires these days.

However, judging from the FromSoftware president’s statement, it is safe to assume that the studio will continue to strive through these challenges, and we might see another critically acclaimed title from them in the coming years.
