The codename “White Sands” stands out because it’s a military test range and a park in real-life New Mexico. The name has scientific importance in the franchise since it is very much in tandem with the Half-Life theme. And to add more allure, the Black Mesa site from the series is also situated in New Mexico. So, fans think that even if the leaked Valve entry is not Half-Life 3, it’s definitely still related to the franchise.
Many Think This Valve Entry Could Be The Highly-Awaited Half-Life 3
The Valve insider, Tyler McVicker, also thinks this leaked project is Half-Life 3. While it’s just a soft confirmation, datamined details from the recent Source 2 leak also pointed at some work that was related to the IP. The lines of code shown in the video suggest the project is PC-only with single-player and co-op elements. Additionally, the datamine had mentions of an “HEV suit charger plug, Xen Gorillas,” and more Half-Life related terms.

All in all, it’s best to take these rumors with a full pinch of salt. While all these dots might be connecting to form proof, Valve has still been awfully quiet about the future of the franchise. The giant conglomerate is currently also working on a live-service hero shooter dubbed Deadlock, which earlier saw plenty of leaks in the industry.
