Techland Considers PS5 Pro’s PSSR Feature More Significant Than The GPU Boost

The Polish developer is currently working on the next Dying Light iteration.

Story Highlights

  • Techland is the proud creator of Dying Light—one of the best zombie action-adventure franchises in gaming.
  • The developer currently has the next rendition of Dying Light in the works, as it also awaits PS5 Pro’s release.
  • Dying Light: The Beast’s director considers the PS5 Pro’s PSSR feature more important than its other enhancements.

Techland’s Tymon Smektala, the director of the Dying Light franchise, has expressed his thoughts about the forthcoming PS5 Pro in a recent interview with GamingBolt, weighing the importance of the console’s PSSR tech as compared to the upgraded GPU. The developer has spoken ahead of the release of Dying Light: The Beast, which is the next iteration in Techland’s zombie open-world series.

We’re just starting to discover the full capabilities of PS5 Pro, but it’s already exciting as it gives us a lot more flexibility with graphics and performance. The boost in GPU will allow us to push visual fidelity, especially with complex environmental details like weather effects, which are very core to Dying Light: The Beast’s experience.”

It’s no wonder at this point that the PS5 Pro will come loaded with features that will redefine console gaming to a certain extent. I mean, we’re talking about playing titles at 60 FPS while the resolution goes up to 4K. No gaming console has been able to achieve this up until now, but with the PS5 Pro’s PSSR functionality, we’re going to be delving into just that.

Tymon puts the level of immersion above everything else, at least for Dying Light. The forthcoming standalone title will seemingly boast bigger and better visuals than any of its predecessors, benefitting from the PS5 Pro’s full expanse.

This kind of power also means generally smoother gameplay at higher resolutions, and that’s something very important for a game like ours, where the highest level of immersion is of utmost importance.”

Following the official announcement of Dying Light: The Beast, I, along with many others, found myself over the moon in anticipation of playing as Kyle Crane again following a relatively lacking sequel. There’s currently no release date for the title, but is expected to launch sometime next year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
