Dragon’s Dogma 2 Pawns [Uses, How To Hire, Compositions]

Hire Pawns to dominate the combat in-game and make your exploration easy!

Your character in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the most important part of the battle. However, you can’t cover all the distance in battle, so that is where pawns come in. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, pawns cover the weaknesses of your main character, making them a vital part of your journey. You can select a main pawn shortly and then hire more as you progress.

Key Takeaways
  • Pawns are NPCs that can be hired to play alongside a player, and they can do many tasks, such as taking part in battle and leading ways while exploring.
  • The first pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be the main pawn that players can create according to their preference.
  • Pawns can be later hired via Riftstones, or players can find some while traveling.

As you create your own character, you can create your own pawn, too. You can select all of its features and how it looks along with its Vocation. Whatever type of pawn you create will be with you till the end, so take your time while creating one. Also, give your pawn a vocation according to your needs; if you are a mage, make sure your pawn is a knight or a thief.

You can also give your pawn a personality, which will affect its gameplay.

The following are all of the inclinations you can apply to your main pawn:

  • Straightforward: A Pawn with this inclination excels in spotting the enemies and rushes into the battle.
  • Kindhearted: As the name suggests, a pawn with this inclination will buff the party and give full support.
  • Simple: A pawn with a simple inclination will gather items and open chests for you.
  • Calm: Such pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will focus more on defense and play strategically.

You can choose any based on your needs in battle. This completely depends on your play style and which vocation you choose, so choose according to your preference.

  • How To Change Inclination: Players can change the pawn’s inclination in Vernworth by buying the Rift Incense from Neomith. Rift Incense lets you change the inclination of your pawn for 2000 RC.

Main Pawn Vocation

Selecting the vocation of your main pawn is an extremely important step in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you are a Fighter, you should go with a mage, sorcerer, or archer for your main pawn to cover long-distance combat. However, do note that the rest of the advanced vocations are not available for your main pawn.

  • Specializations: Applying specializations to your pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is another important step. Specializations are skills that you can use to help you a lot. To apply a specialization to your pawn, you will be able to do some quests, which will reward you with tomes.

Party Of Pawns

Now, you would already know that you can create a party with pawns that can help you in battle. However, for that, you must create a balanced party that will have your back on the battlefield. Just creating a party of fighters is not ideal as there are many enemies that the fighter can’t defeat on its own.

  • Mage is Compulsory: I would suggest you have a mage with you. As per my experience, a Mage is the most important pawn in your team as it can buff your attacks and weapons and give you stamina.

Other than the mage, you can have a warrior, a fighter, or a thief for damage at close range.  However, note that your team composition is highly dependent on your play style. So, make sure you create a team composition according to your preference that can dominate the combat.

Using Riftstones To Hire Pawns

After progressing a little, you can start on your journey. While you explore the open world of Dragon’s Dogma 2, you will come across some Riftstones. These stones allow you to hire more pawns, and you can hire only 2 at a time.

  • Hiring Pawns: As mentioned before, you can only hire two pawns at a single time, but there can be a cost. If you are hiring a pawn that is of the same level as you or lower, then it won’t cost you anything. However, if the pawn is of a higher level, then it would cost you Rift Crystals.
  • Pawn Quest: You can send your pawn on a quest while interacting with the Riftstone. However, do not forget that you can only give this task to your main pawn when it is with another player.
  • Forgotten Riftstones: There are some Riftstones that you can encounter in the open world that are destroyed. You can fix the riftstone and use it again. However, in some cases, an insanely strong pawn can be summoned that will join the party with no catch.

That is almost everything you would want to know about the Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Pawns are an essential part of your journey, so make sure to select the best ones for the ideal experience. Make sure to spend some time creating your main pawn, as it will stay with you till the end. Also, check out the Steam community page of Dragon’s Dogma 2 for general discussion.
