Smithing in Runescape determines how powerful equipment the player can make. The higher the smithing level, the more valuable items the player can craft. With a higher smithing level, the player can make higher-level armor to equip themselves better. Increasing smithing is quite hard as it requires you to craft different items. One of the most efficient methods to increase Smithing in Runescape is making Burial Armor.
- The Burial Armour is an ancient dwarf armor and is a great way of farming XP for smithing.
- The Burial Armour can be made in the Artisan’s workshop, located at the Southeast corner of Falador.
- The cost of assembling this armor depends on the types of materials you are using. You can use ingots varying from Grade 1 to Grade IV. The cost increases as the grade of the resources increases.
- The Rune Burial Armour set is an upgraded version of the Burial Armour and you can easily craft this after you have increased the burial armor’s level to +3.
- This special armor has a lot of perks and gives you a higher and quicker XP.
Burial Armor In Runescape
Burial Armor is the ancient dwarf armor that is made at the Artisans’ Workshop in the southeast corner of Falador. According to the Dwarf Suak, the dwarfs bury their dead in this armor. Burial Armor made of Grade I ingots is for the miners, Grade II ingots for the warriors, and Grade III ingots for the smiths’ burial armor.

It is one of the best methods of gaining smithing experience in the game. That is because the process gives the highest smithing experience in the game. But the armor you make won’t have any worth. This is a process that is known to be expensive, without any reward but gives high experience.
How To Make Burial Armor In Runescape
The player must travel to the Artisans Workshop to make the burial armor. To find the Artisans’ workshop, look at the southeast corner of Falador. On the workshop’s eastern side, a dwarf Suak will be on a stage near the anvils. Ask him to teach you how to make it. He’ll call another dwarf Sten to teach you how to do it in a cut-scene. If you weren’t paying attention, then you can ask him again.
Once Sten demonstrates to you, Suak will tell you which piece of armor to make. If you do as he asks, you’ll get a bonus exp as a reward. Once Suak’s requested armor piece changes, in the anvil, select that armor piece, and continue your work.
To make Runescape Burial Armor, you’ll need a hammer and iron, steel, mithril, adamant, or rune ingot. You’ll need smithing level 30 as this is the minimum requirement to work with Iron ingots. To work with steel, you’ll require level 45 Smithing. Level 60 for mithril, level 70 for adamant, and level 90 for Runite.
Although it seems cheaper to work with iron, the process is really slow. With Iron Grade I, you’ll get 40,000 experience per hour. But if you use Steel Grade I, you’ll get 50,000 experience per hour. The more valuable the metal with a higher grade you use, the more smithing experience you’ll gain.
To make burial armor, first, you’ll have to make normal armor at the anvil near the burial anvils. Then you’ll have to go to the artisans’ anvil and upgrade the armor there to burial armor. Once the armor is complete, it’ll automatically go down through the chute next to the anvil.
Easiest Method To Make Burial Armor
If you want to go the easy way, then making burial armor using Iron Grade I is the go. It has less gold required per exp. But as we’ve mentioned before, the process is really slow. The cost of 1 Iron Ingot Grade I is 449 gold. And the experience you get with 1 Grade I Iron Ingot is 101. So you’ll be spending 4.45 gold per exp.

F2P players prefer using this method as it has lower requirements. Iron is one of the most abundant metals in Runescape, and it is cheap too. To turn 1 Iron ore into Iron Ingot Grade I, you’ll only require one ore; it doesn’t need coal at all.
How Much Does Burial Armor Cost?
The cost of making Burial Armor in Runescape depends on the type of material you’re using and its grade. The type of material from least valuable to most valuable is Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, and then Runite. Whereas in grades, Grade I is the cheapest and least pure ingot, whereas Grade IV is the purest ingot.
To make a Grade I ingot, you’ll require the same amount of ore to make it. That is one ore for one Grade-I ingot. For Grade II ingots, you’d require more ores. And for a single Grade III ingot, even more ores. The method is the same for all.
This all means that the cost of making burial armor depends on several factors. If you’re using Iron of Grade I, you’ll get exp at cheap rates, but the process will be slow. The gold per burial armor you get will be the lowest. Whereas if you use valuable metals with a higher grade level, you’ll get exp at a faster rate.
Rune Burial Armor Set
Rune Burial armor set is one of the best ways a free-to-play player can get the highest smithing exp. And it is the highest grade, and tier armor set that a free-to-play player can smith on an anvil. To make the Rune Burial Armor Set, the player needs first to make the Rune Armor Set + 3. This armor set is then taken over to the Burial Anvil, where it is shaped into the Burial Armor Set for dwarfs.
To make the Rune Burial Armor Set, the player would require 96 Rune Bars. The total progress required to make this armor set is 33,120. Whereas the total exp the player gets for completing this armor is 35,136.
You’ll have to make the Rune Armor Set + 3 first, and then you can make the Rune Burial Armor Set. For this, you’ll require 96 Rune bars. The armor set includes
- Rune Full Helm + 3
- Rune Platebody + 3
- Rune Platelegs + 3
- Rune Gauntlets + 3
- Rune Armored Boots + 3

To complete the set, you’ll get 28,800 progress. Whereas the experience you get with making Rune Armor Set is 23040.
But if you take it to the burial anvil, the Rune Armor Set + 3 turns into Rune Burial Set. Don’t worry, and you won’t have to invest any extra Rune bars into it. But you’ll get 12,096 exp. For this exp, you’ll have to lose the whole armor set.
Conclusion
Although it seems that making Burial Armor in Runescape is worthless because the smithing cost of making Burial Armor of any sort is too high. However, the exp that you get from making the Armor Set is too big to ignore. It is one of the best methods to gain smithing exp while you’re AFK. Be sure to fill the smelter with iron ore and coal so that you don’t have to travel for it again and again.
