According to stats from the official page of Hogwarts Legacy, it appears all of you have spent a… lot of time playing Hogwarts Legacy. Stats suggest that Hogwarts Legacy has been played for 406 million hours, alongside other fun stuff such as 674 million plants grown, 405 million potions brewed, and 2.25 billion Dark Wizards defeated.

Hogwarts Legacy was released back in February to a highly positive reception from games and critics for its gorgeous recreation of the world of the Harry Potter books, however, the game was also heavily criticized for its formulaic open world design and shoe-horned in RPG and loot mechanics.

Our own review gave the game a glowing 4.5 out of 5, with the verdict saying “This is easily one of the best Harry Potter games to date, if not the best one ever. It has a decent storyline which was augmented by interesting characters, a beautifully crafted world, and excellent combat.”

The game was involved in a huge controversy during its release due to the transphobic views shared by the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K Rowling. Many trans creators protested against the game and initiated a boycott against it.

As it typically goes with boycotts, the game ended up being a bigger success than anybody could have imagined, surpassing the likes of major titles such as Elden Ring in commercial success only a few weeks after its launch. If you want to read more about the nature of online boycotts in the gaming industry itself, check out this fun little piece I wrote about the failed boycott of Hogwarts Legacy.
