Remedy Entertainment has recently published its half-year earnings report from January to June 2024, showing its huge portfolio of in-development projects and giving details about their progress. While everything looks quite positive, it also points out that Alan Wake 2 is still not generating royalties for the studio. The tidbit is surprising, clarifying that most of the royalties came from Control and Alan Wake Remastered’s sales.
Royalties consisted mainly of game sales of Control and Alan Wake Remastered. Alan Wake 2 did not yet generate royalties. In the second quarter, operating loss was EUR 3.2 million, improving by EUR 1.6 million from the comparison period,” reads the earnings report.
Remedy also claims that Alan Wake 2 has still not earned back all of the money spent on development and marketing—most of it has been recouped, however.
Additionally, the game’s Night Springs expansion gained excellent reviews from the press and the fans, as the devs continue working diligently on the second expansion, The Lake House. No release window has yet been confirmed for it.
Remedy Entertainment Is Working On Multiple Projects
Remedy is currently developing multiple games despite receiving no revenue from Alan Wake 2. As per the report, Control 2 is now playable, while the Max Payne remakes have entered the “full production stage.” The multiplayer Control spin-off, Project Condor, has been in full production since March of this year. The devs are now focused on creating multiple maps and mission types as internal and limited external playtesting continues.

Despite the current findings, it’s worth noting that Alan Wake 2 enjoyed an extremely positive reception in the community. The horror action experience was far from flawed and proved as a worthy sequel. Players reckon that a lack of sales revenue and popularity might be due to Remedy only dropping it on the Epic Games Store and omitting a physical version on launch.
