Alan Wake 2 Is Releasing In October This Year, Says Protagonist’s VA

A spooky game for a spooky month.

Story Highlights

  • Alan Wake 2 is an upcoming survival thriller title by Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind popular titles such as the first Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control.
  • While no official release date has been given by the people up high as of yet, Alan Wake 2 is speculated to release sometime in 2023, as per Remedy’s financial report of the first quarter of the year.
  • A recent update on that front comes from Alan Wake’s voice actor, Matthew Porretta, who seemingly said in a recent podcast that Alan Wake 2 is supposed to come out in October this year.

While speaking to Justin from Monsters, Madness and Magic in a recent podcast, Alan Wake’s voice actor Matthew Poretta has seemingly outed the release window of Alan Wake 2. The game is said to be releasing this year, but Matthew has pinpointed October to be the launch month of the highly anticipated third-person survival thriller. Halloween can’t come sooner this time around.

The following video has been marked with the appropriate time stamp for you to catch Alan Wake’s VA in action, spilling the beans on the game’s release period. When asked regarding the voice work of the Alan Wake character in-game, inquiring whether the talent came naturally or Matthew had to make efforts to get the figure where it is today, the VA replied with the following.

I’ve been working on it where that’s supposed to come out in October. We’re in the middle of working on it now. In fact, I was just in Finland this week. That’s where the company is from. Amazing people.”

Matthew starts talking about his experience of voicing Alan Wake from the 16:46 mark in the following video. He goes on to explain how it’s been 13 years since the original title came out and how he loves the character. The Alan Wake VA goes on to explain his audition story as well to the host, describing how he surprisingly landed the gig even though he forgot about the whole audition at one point.

What Matthew has said about the release date of Alan Wake 2 does potentially fall in line with another piece of news that popped up a month ago. Remedy’s financial report for 2023’s first quarter stated that the title is in the final stage of full production. Before that, Remedy’s CEO affirmed that Alan Wake 2 is completely playable and that the game is slated to release in 2023 bar none.

And to be fair, the October timeline seems pretty plausible. It’s the month of Halloween when the festive spooky spirit runs rampant across the world and everyone seems to be digging the ghostly overall environment. Launching a title like Alan Wake 2 in these times would make the title pop off like there’s no tomorrow, especially considering the hype that the upcoming survival horror has gathered.

To shed some light on the developer, Remedy Entertainment is the proud creator of noteworthy IPs such as Quantum Break, Max Payne, and even the first Alan Wake. Helming the sequel to the latter unsparingly pumps fans full of throbbing excitement, since this is one video game studio that knows how to make games, proper ones.

Alan Wake 2 is officially scheduled to release sometime in 2023 (now October this year allegedly) for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, while effectively skipping last-gen consoles.
