Story Highlights
- Arkane may be working on a new single-player game, according to a job listing from the company.
- The listing asks for candidates with experience in single-player games.
- Arkane recently released Redfall, a multiplayer game considered by many to be subpar.
Arkane received heavy backlash following the release of Redfall, a multiplayer-only looter shooter that received poor reviews over bugs and performance. It was a game that Arkane developers themselves did not want to make, with most of the studio talent leaving before the game was released. It seems that Arkane is trying to go back to its roots, and job postings suggest their next title will be a single-player game.
A job posting for a Lead Technical Engineer in the Austin studio (thanks IdleSloth84) requests that candidates have familiarity with AAA single-player games and immersive sims, a genre that Arkane is well known for. This suggests that Arkane will return to its roots with its next game, and ditch multiplayer, which it had tried with Redfall. The job posting was found by Idle Sloth and posted to Twitter.
Arkane is the developer of games such as Dishonored and Prey, two well-received single-player immersive sims. Following the poor release of Redfall, it makes much sense for the studio to turn back and work on what they are known for, instead of making a game in a genre that the studio has never done before. Redfall was so poorly received, even Phil Spencer, head of Xbox had to apologize for the game’s performance.
Outside of Redfall, Arkane Studios has made some really good games. They may still have it in them to create impressive single-player experiences, although Redfall was a spectacular blunder on the studio’s part. Let’s hope they do not make the same mistakes they made with Redfall because Arkane has been known for its high-quality single-player games.
