Story Highlights
- Blizzard Entertainment has created game franchises like Diablo, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and others.
- The developer now seems to be working on an “RPG FPS” AAA title for both PC and consoles.
- No other details are available at the moment, leading to widespread speculation about the project.
A titanic company like Blizzard Entertainment always has a few different projects in the works at any given time, but one particular piece of information has caught an interest as of late. Blizzard’s Senior Director of Product Management, Chris McCabe, has mentioned on his LinkedIn profile that he’s part of an “RPG-FPS AAA” project that got started in April 2024.
After revisiting the profile, it seems that the RPG FPS part has since been removed, but reliable insider Timur222 on X was able to grab a screenshot ahead of time, also putting the info out there first. The profile’s left with the rest of the keywords, which are “unannounced AAA Title (PC/console).”
Some Speculation On What Blizzard Could Be Cooking Up
As the news found itself circulating on Reddit, folks didn’t take long to jump to the one thing that makes the most probable sense here—Overwatch 2 PvE. Back when Blizzard launched Overwatch 2 in 2019, the developer came forward with the promise of Hero Mode, a single-player-only way of playing the game that would also offer incredible replayability.
On May 16, 2023, Overwatch developers put together a livestream, officially announcing that the long-awaited, extremely anticipated PvE mode of Overwatch 2 is getting canned. Feel free to check the comments section of the linked video to understand what the broad consensus came out to be from that declaration.
Fans, therefore, seem to be of the opinion that Blizzard could be reviving Overwatch 2’s PvE in one way or the other, but, of course, take this information with a grain of salt. There are absolutely no other details to go on at the moment.
