Certain Affinity May Be Developing A New Halo Infinite Mode

The game mode is not expected to be a battle royale.

According to Windows Central, Certain Affinity is working on a new multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite. Certain Affinity is a video game support studio that has assisted in the development of many Call of Duty and Halo titles.

Codenamed project Tatanka, this new mode is made to allure fans of battle royale games such as Warzone, Fortnite, and Apex Legends. However, this new Halo mode is not expected to be a Battle Royale.

The game mode will feature players holding forward operating bases and defending them from enemies, according to Twitter user @Surasia4

Many developers have experimented with large-scale modes. Battlefield 2042‘s Hazard Zone was an interesting take on a non-BR squad-based mode. It could be expected that this new Halo mode could feature squad-based mechanics.

Halo 5: Guardians featured a large-scale mode known as Warzone (not to be confused with Call of Duty: Warzone). This mode featured large-scale PvP, boss fights, and the goal to destroy the enemy team’s cores.

Gaming insider Idlesloth hinted that the mode is similar to Halo 5: Warzone and Gears 5 Horde mode.

They have also mentioned a new progression system to be added into the new mode. Halo Infinite does not have a traditional ranking system like past Halo games. Instead, there is only a progression system for ranked lobbies.

The untitled project is expected to take advantage of user-created content through the forge. Halo Infinite‘s forge mode will not release until season 3, which may not be out until August at the earliest. Forge is a traditional Halo mode that allows players to create their maps and game modes with the game’s existing assets.

343 Industries has planned to update Halo Infinite with the story and multiplayer DLC for the next ten years. A lot of DLC can be made with ten years of development time. Time will tell what 343 and Certain Affinity are cooking up. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
