Cyberpunk 2077 Is “An RPG Before It’s a Shooter”

According To Patrick Mills

Cyberpunk 2077 is the next game from CDPR and it seems that it is not another shooter that you have played before, it’s much more than that. Patrick Mills, the quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, has talked about the game in the past and he has also revealed some new insights. He talked about how the game is not just a shooter but an RPG before that. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

Well, it’s an RPG. It’s an RPG before it’s a shooter. And it’s really about making a character and inhabiting that character and living in this world and making choices from not just the point of view of that character but also of yourself. With The Witcher, you had Geralt, and Geralt had a history.

He further went on to talk about the reference material and storytelling and how he wants Cyberpunk 2077 to be the player’s story instead. He also touched on the Witcher series. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

He had decades of books, games, comics, and even television series, with a new one on the way and it was about guiding him through his story. But with this, we want it to be your story. So really, putting you in first person is the only way to do that.

While some people are concerned about playing the game in the first person perspective, we are talking about CDPR here. I am sure the team knows what it is doing and the final result will be good enough. From what we have seen so far, it seems that the game is in development and it will be a while before it is released.

That is ok. We did not really think that the game would be coming out this year and keeping in mind how long we have waited, I am sure we can wait a bit longer and give CDPR the time it needs as long as the end game is decent.

From what we have seen, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be a very impressive game and I think it will be worth the wait.
