After Killing It With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Director Says Next Game Will Be Even Better

And there's no doubting that.

Story Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the most enthralling RPGs of the year, released earlier in February.
  • The game belongs to a trilogy of remakes, meaning there are going to be three reimaginings of FF7.
  • The director of the project says that the final Final Fantasy 7 remake is going to be amazing.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has won hearts in droves, but here’s something that you definitely want to know if you count yourself as a fan of the franchise. The director of the remake trilogy, Naoki Hamaguchi, has made a bold statement in recent times, appearing in an interview with Final Fantasy Union. It seems work is very well underway on the forthcoming Final Fantasy 7 iteration, with no room for compromises.

When asked if there were issues that Hamaguchi overcame during Rebirth’s development that the majority didn’t know of, the director affirmed confidence in Square Enix’s focus, saying that he’s happy he was able to stray a little away from Final Fantasy’s traditional gameplay style and approach a new direction for the future of the franchise.

Yes, I think in terms of the team that I lead, the absolute, essential mission that we’ve been set by the company is to complete the 7 remake trilogy and finish it off and make it the best experience we possibly can. That’s absolutely priority number one,” said Naoki Hamaguchi.

Further in the interview, Hamaguchi said that he’s looking forward to what “his team is going to be making in the future,” as Square Enix looks ahead to the coming years full of like-minded releases.

It bears mentioning that the developer is also working on Project Hikari at the moment, which is otherwise an immersive VR experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Won’t Get DLC

And that’s final.

Hamaguchi, in a separate interview, has confirmed that Square Enix would rather focus on the development of the next Final Fantasy 7 remake title instead of slaving away on DLC. That’s why you’re not to expect any Rebirth expansion down the road.

We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing. I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.”
