Story Highlights
- In an interview, devs said that Gears of War: E-Day wants to tell a tale that “feels like a horror story.”
- The game’s lore may explore people’s terrifying experiences during the Locust Horde.
- The goal is to recapture the feeling of terror that many players might face when playing the series.
In an interview with IGN, Gears of War: E-Day’s brand director Nicole Fawcette and creative director Matt Searcy talked about capturing the horrors of Emergence Day and Locust Horde as grimly as possible. The devs said they want to tell a tale that “feels like a horror story” and perfectly recreates the human reactions to seeing disgusting monsters emerging from the ground.
For us, it’s like a what-if story. What if the ground opened up and monsters came out? Yeah, it’s set on a fictional, other planet, but there are very human reactions and stories we get to tell. To do that, we need to be able to tell a story that feels like a horror story,” said Matt Searcy.
The monster invasion will be a horrific endeavor for players, but having the visual fidelity of Unreal Engine 5 and a focus on Emergence Day will likely result in a horror experience like no other in Gears of War: E-Day.
Through Unreal Engine 5, we now can show the locust at that visual fidelity that is believable as scary creatures from the subterranean. And so, like you saw in the trailer, we’re really kind of leaning into those horror vibes as fans remember it and as time has moved on,” said Nicole Fawcette.
Gears Of War: E-Day Is A Prequel About The Brutal Emergence Day
The newly announced title takes us back to the olden days of Marcus and Dom’s friendship. It’s not a reboot; it’s just set way earlier than the timeline of Gears 5. The devs have even explicitly made it clear that the stories told in Gears 4 and 5 will not be abandoned. They just wanted to pay tribute to the origin that started it all.
