Konami is reportedly “potentially porting” the Silent Hill franchise to contemporary consoles, this comes from one of five short developer interviews and documentaries that include a lot of info about past experiences for the team—what’s to come from the studio and franchise, and surprisingly, ports for older titles to newer-gen consoles with certain aspects remade for the new hardware.

In the attached video, Miyatani, a level designer, talked specifically about porting the games as a “remade” version which would be much more compatible with the consoles themselves. Miyatani begins by talking a little about her own experiences with Konami and then moves towards how the start of port discussions happened and how hopes to bring the game back to life with newer hardware gave the Silent Hill 2 remake birth.

Everyone, including myself, who were part of that discussion were big Silent Hill fans, so, internally, people started talking, and we said, ports would be nice too, but what we would really like to see is a Silent Hill remade for current gen consoles.

These early conversations sparked a sudden interest within the teams and they started to move toward demo designs and mockups for what a remake for the title would potentially run and look like. The results were surprisingly positive and were met with positive reception from internal teams.

We wanted to see the series brought back and give it new life, so a number of us sat down and spent several months creating a production-quality mock-up demo as a playable proof of concept that we could show for a remake for Silent Hill 2.

Although Konami has tried to revive older titles of the franchise, nothing has ever truly incepted itself into the market as of yet, so the idea of a true revival is still very possible, and at the same time very easy to mess up and leave a bad impression of the franchise, one the Silent Hill 2 Remake is already setting itself to be.
