Silent Hill 2 Is Measuring Up To Offer Hardcore Horror; Here’s How

The game releases this fall.

Story Highlights

  • The Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team is hitting shelves next month for the PS5 and PC.
  • A new update by the developer confirms that the game will feature added accessibility options.
  • These should make the overall experience much more terrifying and offer greater playability.

Silent Hill 2 has gone through a tumultuous reception over the course of its initial reception, but now, it’s finally looking like Bloober Team is onto something fantastic here. Taking to X, the developer has announced two features for the game that will essentially change the way you experience the Silent Hill 2 remake in the times to come.

Looking for the most immersive way to play SILENT HILL 2? You’ll have an option to turn off all UI elements! We’ve also created a ’90s filter’ with grain effect, color correction and screen adjustments to complete the old-school experience,” reads the post.

With all the HUD elements gone mid-gameplay and said 90s filter toggled on, you can’t help but feel as if you time traveled all the way back to the early 2000s; playing through the classic Silent Hill 2 in all its glory. The shared video on X also showcases the functionality in action, and it’s quite evident how these two complement each other to produce an immersing effect.

Additionally, Bloober Team replied to its post in the comments section, supplying users with extra information regarding how the gameplay will pan out in the absence of HUD elements. James Sunderland — the protagonist — will evidently display characteristic behavior in areas of interest and attempt to guide the player through visual means.

Without UI, player guidance will naturally be directed by the game’s visuals, sound effects, and James’s behavior. He will glance towards important spots and have different animations and facial expressions during wounded states.”

Silent Hill 2’s Environmental Design Gives Me Hope

Konami pulled the curtains on the Silent Hill 2 remake in October 2022 during a dedicated Silent Hill transmission, and from there on out, the reception to the reveal has been fairly mixed. Its combat trailer, released by Bloober, certainly didn’t work in the project’s favor, but another showcase at a later date, one that specifically doubled down on the atmosphere, definitely did.

The game comes out on October 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC, now that the survival horror is past its final stage of development.
