Tango Gameworks To Consider Various Opportunities Before Committing To Hi-Fi Rush’s Sequel

"I want to cherish this IP."

Story Highlights

  • Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm action game that surprise-launched to fantastic critical acclaim in early 2023.
  • The maker of the game, Tango Gameworks, says that it wants to cherish the IP.
  • Before it can proceed with making a sequel of the game, it wants to consider all available options.

You know a game is loved when it attracts an influx of positive review-bombing in the case of its developer studio getting shut down. Hi-Fi Rush maker Tango Gameworks was canned by Microsoft in May 2024, which sent shockwaves across the industry. No more than a couple of months later, Krafton Inc. — the South Korean gaming giant — revived the studio, while also collecting rights to the title’s license.

Now, Tango boss Colin Mack is “positively” considering what to do next with the Hi-Fi Rush IP. Speaking to IGN in an interview, both the studio head and game director John Johanas opened up about their current plans, elaborating on their love for the franchise and how they have plans for its future.

We are considering a sequel positively. We are not yet at the stage where we can say specifically, ‘This is what we’re going to do.'”

“Many of our staff have a lot of love for [Hi-Fi Rush], so we feel like we have options. We’re currently at the stage of considering various opportunities,” continued John Johanas.

While project manager Kazuaki Egashira affirms “the development staff have a strong attachment to Hi-Fi Rush” and “not only the game but also the characters and the world are beloved by us,” it’s also important to keep trying new things so you don’t run out of creativity as a game maker.

Hi-Fi Rush became popular as a new IP, but if Hi-Fi Rush were to stay the same forever, it would eventually become outdated. I think Tango Gameworks is about taking on new challenges. I hope to continue to work in a way that puts developers at the center, without losing our passion,” said Egashira.

Hi-Fi Rush Has Taken The Rhythm-Action Genre To A New Level

And this just goes without saying honestly. I never realized rhythm-action could be this fun, and thanks to the game, I’ve been able to try out more titles in the genre, including the smash-hit Beat Slayer. Hi-Fi Rush is easily one of Tango’s best works. I’d suppose me and about two million other people at least would agree.

Hi-Fi Rush is a title that not only manages to make its mark in the genre but also showcases the fact that it is a video game that offers nothing but pure high-octane fun from beginning to end.”
