FromSoftware Has An Unannounced Project In Development Since 2022

Fans believe this project might be an "abstract fantasy" title.

Story Highlights

  • FromSoftware is working on an unannounced project since January 2022, according to the LinkedIn profile of a producer/director working at the company.
  • The studio has not revealed any information about the project. This appears to be normal, considering the project is still likely to be in its infant stage.
  • Miyazaki has previously expressed his intentions to create an abstract fantasy title that fans believe might be linked to this unannounced project.

According to the LinkedIn profile of Kenneth Chan, a producer/director at FromSoftware, (highlighted by Twitter user @bogorad222), it was revealed that the studio has been working on an unannounced project since January 2022. This project is separate from Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon which was announced at The Game Awards last year.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Miyazaki Hidetaka was asked about his plans following the triumph of Elden Ring. He expressed his willingness to want to work on an “abstract fantasy” project. Looking at previous Soulsborne titles, they have all been rather abstract, relying on the player to piece it all together.

FromSoftware has kept a tight lid on any information about this unannounced project considering it’s been in development for over a year. This has not prevented the community from speculating, however. Many have expressed their wish for the studio to revisit its classic titles, such as Kingsfield, while others believe it to be an entirely new IP.

The studio is known for creating challenging experiences that demand a player to rise to the occasion. In an interview with the New Yorker, Miyazaki has previously stated that the difficulty of these games is the identity of FromSoftware. It’s reassuring to see the studio’s willingness to explore new avenues while not losing sight of its roots.

FromSoftware’s latest game, Elden Ring, has been a huge success in several ways. The most interesting has been the number of new players it has attracted despite the studio’s reputation. While Elden Ring was the most accessible of all Soulsborne titles, it was not easy by any means. Even so, many new players have expressed their thoughts on their experiences with the game.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is slated for release sometime in 2023. We can assume that details for this unannounced project will begin to surface once the studio’s latest title hits the shelves.
