Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Remake Second Biggest Switch Launch In Japan

Estimated 1.39 million units sold 3 days after release

According to a sales report compiled by Famitsu, the recently released Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has sold an estimate of 1.39 million copies only 3 days after its release. The launch is estimated to be the second biggest launch of a title in Switch history, beating out games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

The record for the biggest launch in Switch history is still held by Animal Crossing: New Horizons which sold 1.88 million copies within its first week in Japan and a total of 13.41 million copies worldwide during its launch window.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl which came out in September 2006 on the Nintendo DS and sold 1.58 million copies in its four days in Japan. The game has launched to very favorable reviews from critics with many praising the game’s faithfulness to the original game as well its new art-style.

Pokemon Legends Arceus continues to be one of the most anticipated games of next year launching on January 28th exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The game is also currently available to pre-order on various outlets.

Going from collecting cute Pokemon to collecting demons, Shin Megami Tensei V also came out on the Nintendo Switch around 2 weeks ago. The game topped the charts in its release week and topped games like Call of Duty Vanguard and Mario Party Superstars in Japan. The game also launched to very positive reviews with many praising the game for its deep and satisfying turn based combat and addicting demon collecting system. There have also been rumors for a console and PC port in the works, which might not be that far-fetched of a claim considering the release of other ATLUS games like Catherine, Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 4 Golden on Steam.
