Sloclap, a Paris-based French indie studio, is known for developing Kung Fu-based narrative-driven games. Founded in 2015, the studio first came to the attention of gamers when it released its first game, Absolver, and later for Sifu.
Absolver was relatively successful, but its success was eclipsed by Sifu. Unlike Absolver, Sifu was not released for Xbox at the time of its release. But now it is about to change as the developer has announced that the game will be available on Xbox from March next year.
MAJOR TAKEAWAYS
- The Xbox release for Kung Fu-based game, Sifu, has been set for March 2023 which would end Xbox fans’ year-long wait.
- The game was initially released this year for PC, PS4, and PS5 on 8th February, and for Nintendo Switch on 8th November.
- The game is developed by the French studio Sloclap. The studio was founded in 2015 and is based in Paris.
- Sifu is the studio’s second game. The first game developed by the studio was Absolver, a Kung Fu-based action RPG released in 2017.
Sloclap also announced that they will also release the new “Arena” update along with the Xbox release. The update will be available for all platforms. The game will also be available on Steam on the same date. The studio released the following statement via IGN,
Successfully completing the arenas will progressively unlock a massive new modifiers batch, which doubles the current game’s amount and notably brings alternative moves to the Kung Fu palette of our main character. Completing the new Arenas challenges will also unlock new cheats and exclusive new outfits.”
Along with the statement, we were also offered a first look into the game’s upcoming “Arena” update.

Sifu is a third-person brawler-action game that follows a child’s journey toward seeking revenge for his killed father. Set in Modern day China, the game also has a unique aging mechanic. The player once dead ages a little after the resurrection.
Sifu was released in February 2022 and was an astounding success over the studio’s first release. Sifu sold over 500,000 copies in two days and 1 million within a month. Compared to this, Absolver only managed to sell 250,000 copies in a month.
Sifu also received more positive reviews compared to Absolver and was even compared to game series like Dark Souls and Street Fighter by some reviews. Despite the majority of positive reviews, the game was criticized for its upgrade system.
Another criticism came from Xbox fans who were not too amused at the studio’s decision to delay the Xbox release of the game. Many were surprised because, unlike Sifu, Absolver was released for Xbox One along with all other platforms.
They were further disappointed when in November this year the game was released for Nintendo but not for Xbox. But now the announcement of the Xbox release date is sure to appease disgruntled Xbox fans.
Sifu is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X from March 2023.
