The PlayStation 5 has had a terrific launch in terms of sales. Sony’s next-gen console seems to offer features like never before, with the DualSense boasting haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a truly immersive experience that does nothing but impress right from the get-go. However, one specific topic has been subject to thorough critique, and that is the price point of exclusive PlayStation 5 games.
Ever since it was revealed that Sony would set a £70 price for PlayStation 5 games, fans have had mixed thoughts. For those living in the UK, paying £70 would mean dishing out almost $93. While players in the US would still pay $70, there’s a bit of unfairness in this situation. However, the fact that there is a small number of PlayStation 5 exclusives available right now doesn’t make this ordeal isn’t much noticeable. Make no mistake, this only prolongs the inevitable where gamers would have no choice but to buy exclusives at this price.
Addressing this scenario, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has made a comment and tried to make people understand the worth of the games and the console. Speaking to The Telegraph in an interview, Ryan says, “Yes, I do [consider it fair].”If you measure the hours of entertainment provided by a video game, such as Demon’s Souls, compared to any other form of entertainment, I think that’s a very straightforward comparison to draw.”
The thing is, the PlayStation 5’s sales are going strong, and a multitude of people are still struggling to get one at a reasonable price. Consumers won’t hesitate to buy PlayStation 5 exclusives at launch for $70 or £70, especially the party in front is something along the lines of God of War Ragnarok.
However, a fair number of people still question this pricing which may or may not lead to a better explanation by the PlayStation heads in the near future. For now, we’ve yet to get more exclusives for this next-gen console.
