Ex-Deviation Games Developers Working On An Unannounced Sony Project

LinkedIn accounts suggest ex-employees are working for Sony.

                                                                            Story Highlights

  • Deviation Games is a studio founded by ex-Treyarch co-head Jason Blundell.
  • Deviation Games was in partnership with Sony for an unannounced project.
  • Following layoffs earlier this year, ex-Deviation employees are currently working on an unannounced project for Sony.

According to the LinkedIn of numerous ex-employees from studio Deviation games, it seems that former Deviation employees are currently working on an unannounced project for Sony. The connection was discovered by a user on Twitter (or “X” if you’re pedantic) by the name of “Zuby_Tech” who attached pictures of certain ex-deviation employees working on the Sony project.

Deviation Games was founded by ex-Treyarch co-head Jason Blundell. During his time at Treyarch, Blundell was best known for his work on the “Zombies” side of many of the Call of Duty games. Blundell founded his studio in the form of Deviation Games in 2021, alongside the announcement of his brand-new studio, it was also confirmed that the studio was in partnership with Sony for an unannounced project.

In September of 2022 however, Deviation Games announced Blundell’s departure from the studio alongside the hiring of numerous industry veterans coming from titles such as God of War and Command and Conquer. In March of 2023, VGC broke the news that Deviation Games was facing mass layoffs, estimating that up to 90 employees were let go from the studio.

A certain number of these employees are now working once again for Sony, but it is not yet confirmed whether many of these employees are back to working at Deviation Games or are working internally for PlayStation.

Interestingly so, a developer with the Twitter handle “JCbackfire” tweeted out an announcement stating that he was currently working as a Junior Game Designer at PlayStation Studios, but more importantly, that he was working for Deviation founder Jason Blundell.

Now this could either mean that Blundell, as well as the rest of the staff, are back with their old studio once again, or they’re working separately for PlayStation. The entire situation feels rather messy at the moment and open to different interpretations. Hopefully, this situation will be resolved in time and we’ll get to see whatever Deviation or anyone else is cooking up for PlayStation Studios.
